I've got an NP 435 out of an 87 F-? I'm trying to figure out if I have the good gearing (6.69:1), cause if I understand it right there were 3 different gears available...the serial number as good as I could tell are:
If the transmission came out of 87 then its not a NP-435 if it came out of a 78 then it maybe. A NP-435 usually has a aluminum shift tower the T-18 has a cast iron top. The T-18 has a prominant bulge on one side and its shaped differently.
If you had a pic I could tell you if its a 435 as for the gear ratios I couldn't tell you. The 435 does have a slightly lower first gear over the T-18 BW. As for the transmission choice I would take it would be a T-18 its nicer to shift the gear ratios are better.
I have driven old 70s trucks with 435 and a 80 truck with T-18 I prefered the 18 especially behind the weak 351m that powered my F-350.
Everything I've read so far, says that they came in F-150's and others until the early 90's. It's defenitely an NP 435 w/ the aluminum top. My factory 87 service manual shows dis/re-assembly as well. I think dodge ran them until 93 or so. I just want to know what the gearing is on it
