Tires and wheels
Good afternoon group,
I have a 65 F100 and would like to know what the original wheel and tire size was for this truck. It has 10x15 Einke wheels with 295x50xR15 Dunlops. I think if I go back to the originals the gas mileage would be a little better. I have a 300 IL 6 with 3 on the tree with 3:50 rear gears. If you use original or near size wheels and tires, where did you find the tires, and what about wheels? Thanks for your time and bandwidth.

There's 3 types of rims that were used;
15x5.5 inch with 6.70x15 (G78x15 tires. This was a split rim with a locking ring. This rim uses the internal hubcap fastening
16x5 inch with 6.50x16 tires (tubeless) Solid rim with internal hubcap fastening. This rim goes back to the early 1950's on trucks
16x5 inch with 6.50x16 tires (tubeless) Solid rim with external hubcap fastening. This rim was used from 64-66.
The internal fastening means the hubcap has a inner ring that pops into the wheel center. This style rim had a hubcap that was used from 61-66. These were in stainless or painted finish.
The external fastening means the hubcap doesn't have the inner ring and pops over the center like a car does. These rims used a hubcap that was also used on the 64 Ford car. It came in stainless or painted finish.

Hmmmm...
Not to directly contradict Barry, but there were certainly 15" by 5.5" rims that were NOT fitted with a locking ring. As far as I know, these were the most common. I think he is right on with the tire that was on the 15" rim.
Here are some pics and more info:
