I'm looking to make the big switch from split rims (bias tires) to one-piece (radials). My '66 F100 Camper Special has 15"x5.5" split rim wheels with 7.00x15 (front) and 7.50x15 (rear) tires with 5 on 5.5" spacing.
I'd like to find a one piece rim and tire size that will closely match my current wheel/tire overall dimensions to maintain that "tall/skinny" original look (approx. 30" tall x 6" wide), much like an f200 in appearance. I'm told a 15x5 or 15x6 wheel would be closest with perhaps a 215 85R16 tire or a 235 75R15 tire.
The other concern, of course, is that the new wheels have to accomodate the old dog-dish hubcaps (i.e. retainer nubs/bumps pointing in, toward the lugs, on the inside). I'm told '66 was the last year for this style.
What are you original-ists running on your f100 (i.e. 5 bolt wheel) trucks to maintain the proper "tall/skinny" look? Where can you find wheels in these sizes? I'm told '66 Broncos had them.
PLEASE POST PICS with wheel/tire sizes. Your help is greatly appreciated.
If you don't want to switch wheels, just buy a new set of Radial tires for your truck.
I may have a set of 15x6 wheels that will accomadate your hubcaps, that are one piece. I'll let you know when I buy new wheels for my truck tho because I am currently running them w/ fullsize ford hubcaps on them.
Shouldn't be long until I get wheels tho.
I had a set of stock 66 wheels but was missing the spare. I found wheels that look vary similar and I think are the same as the stock ones in junkyards on just about every van and truck built before the 70s and after the 50s they are vary commen and have a ford oval logo near the lugs, and the lug holes have a square indent around them. wish i could send a picture.
also they have the nubs for the small hub caps and look vary similar to the split rims of the same time so they will keep the stook look you are trying to keep. for a tall look 235/75 R15 looks good but you may want to go narrower. Good luck
