it is getting plenty of spark, plenty of fuel, timming is correct as well as firring order. i had it running yesterday, i stalled it out and thats the last time it ran, i believe the motor flooded out, but ive cleaned the plugs up good,im stumped.

Now I know you've still got that point set up in there i would recomend cleaning them up with some emery cloth and then trying to start it, when i couldnt get my 390 to fire b4 i tuned it up it had plenty of spark to but it would start i cleaned the points reset the gap and it fired right up so try that "motorcraftsman" then drive to your local boneyard and pick up a duraspark set up, <Later> good luck and peace out
Motorcraftsman, take the plugs out and spin the engine a couple of times to try to blow any excess gas out of the cylinders(make sure spark is disabled) then put the plugs in and try it. If it doesn't go give it a shot of ether that might also dry it out a little. John
Motorcraftsman. You probably should replace the plugs. I have seen some plugs that just are not proper after they get fouled out. No matter how well you clean them, they just don't fire the same, if at all. I have had a couple of trucks do this. Good luck.
LAST EDITED ON 08-Mar-01 AT 10:54 PM (EST)[p]i got it running, it really helped when i open the throttle and looked down the carb, to see about a 1/4" deep puddle of gas. so it was flooded out pretty good, i siphoned the gas out the manifold, then i pulled the carb apart as well to reveal the float was stuck, problem solved, thanks.
i hate my carter 1bbl.

the ticking noise?
it still does it, it sounds like its comming from the valve cover, it sounds more of a faint diesel engine sound, idont understand it really, im thinking its maybe a wrist pin, being everything on the valvetrain is brand new.

the points, they are ok, your right though i rather have a duraspark 2. but this distributor was a simple 15 minute job to hook up, no electronic igniton wiring harness to hook up. the vacuum advance seems more effective than the elctronic advance that is well known on the tfi. now ive seen a kit in summit where the points can be replaced with a magnetic pick up(converts it to a simple elctronic ignition) that serves the same purpose as the points, they have applications for ford 6 cylinders 74 and up and my distributor did come off of a 74.
its not a bad buy for 70 bucks.
the only problem i still have with the truck is when the motor is cut off it wont started unless i choke it then she stars right up, the motor is also warmed up to opperating temperature when this happens, i just dont understand.
