I just recently replaced my flywheel on my 85. I removed the transfer case and transmission to get to it like it says in the Chilton's manual. Only thing is I didn't drain the torque converter. When I put everything back together and filled my transmission I've noticed that it seems that the transmission isn't shifting soon enough and it seems to be holding the gear like if your were using the transmission to slow down in a manual trans. Any ideas?
If water got in there and sat for a week could that cause this. I'm thinking of draining the tranny again and refilling it.
If there is a remote possibliity the water infiltrated the transmission, take it an have it flushed, not just drained. I will be worth it without doubt.
replacing the modulator valve and inspecting the vacuum line was the first thing I did. I'm giving some thought to taking the valve back up to the parts store and getting another one. THe other thing that I ment to mention was that the new transmission oil is already black. I filled it with dexron 3. I have a C6.
You should always drain the torque converter since it can hold 1/3 - 1/2 of the oil. Clean the pan and the screen if needed, and try to flash the cooler, too, and hope that the oil turned black because of the dirty oil that left in there before.
