Actually, when it comes to bicycle tires, Continentals are very good. Lance Armstrong uses them.
Quite true. Continentals have some of the best and most expensive road bike tires out there -- I've had good luck with them on my bike.
I always figured that Conti's were a step above most auto tires (a premium brand). I've used them on my Audi with great results -- very inexpensive compared to the competition, and great gripping characteristics. Only drawback is they wear out fast, but frankly, I'd rather have a very grippy tire that wears out after 30k then some hard as a rock tire that goes for 80k. My 2005 Ford Escape also came with Contis -- time will tell how these pan out. I seem to be seeing Contis on all types of vehicles, expecially Fords, a lot more often these days than I used to. Maybe after Ford dropped Firestone Conti stepped in with the lowest bid for Ford's business, but with all the added volume, slipped a little in quality control.
My great luck continues..05 250 4x4 comes in last night. Ordered Nov 30, second truck, long story. Fleet calls me this am and says bad news, bad vibration at 45mph...all four 18" Continental AT OWL have flat spots. No other 18s on the lot to swap. Says he will get 4 new Conti's from the Ford Warehouse tomorrow (INSERT LAUGH HERE ) Never had a problem with Conti's, Great Tires he says. Can all four factory fresh tires have flat spots? I haven't driven the truck yet. But sure as heck will before $$ is exchanged.
FTE help me out here. Give me some truth and ammunition for tomorrow when they call me and tell me the tire fairy didn't make it by tonight. Are these guys right..is this smoke and mirrors ? If push comes to shove, what tires should I demand that would be a $ option exchange? Is it possible there is another problem, maybe drive train??
I took delivery of my 2005 F350 with the Contitrac AT tires. Couldnt wait to get them off of the truck. They are terrible. The stock wheels are fine. Replaced mine with Diamo 8 karats, and Nitto Grapplers 18inch x 35's, now those are some great tires for highway, and some light offroading. Love them. About to put my 18 inch stock wheels and conti trac at's up for sale.
