OK, I'm going to assume you've got the big hole on the side of the tranny with a small threaded (5/16") next to it. The cable you pulled out has the fork or bracket attached to it. THe body of that end has an o ring on it and the gear mounts to that with clip.
I found a C6 cable out of a 67 Mustang that's long enough. It's part number C7ZZ 17260-C. 66 inches long.

If you go this route, call and ask them to open box and describe each end. I'll really bet that you have a tranny from a car in there. On your old cable, is there any paper tags on it with an engineering number on it? I can Identify it by that.
There is no tag on the cable. It has a green gear that goes on the trans. That gear has a 17T and either a 40 or 4D on it. The 17T stands for 17 teeth. Does this help? Thanks again Barry for all your help.
No, that just helps I D the gear. You need that gear for whatever cable you put in the truck. The new ones don't come with a gear as there's different applications for each cable. Was I correct on the description of the lower end of your cable? Try your local auto parts store and see if they can get a cable for a 67 Mustang with a 390/ C6 tranny. It should work. It would be easier to return locally if it doesn't fit.
bracket attached to it. Cable runs though the bracket. That for your help Barry. I know I can be a pain but just want to get it as right as I can. Thanks again.
hey barry my names Nick. i had a question for you. i saw you helped someone else out with a speedometer cable. i have a 1964 ford f100 4 speed on the floor 4x4 inline 6. 232 i think. correct me if im wrong please. i need to know either how long the speedometer cable is, and if a parts store would carry such a thing. if so do you know what one might have one??? we have a bunch of different ones around here. if you could email me back that would be easiest for me. my email is nickstockwell2003@yahoo.com
Hi Nick... Your truck has a 223 6 cyl engine. 64 was the last year for it. Anyway, I located 3 places that have your cable you need. It's part number C3TZ 17260-CA . It doesn't give a length. Here's the names of the places I found.
Green Sales, Cinci, Oh. 1-800-543-4959 ( Most expensive place to deal with )
Dale King Obs., Liberty, Ky. 1-877-246-1111 ( good place )
Bowman Sales, Bowman, ND ( Ford dealer )
Call who ever is closest. I gave my personal reccommendations, but do what you want. Call and ask prices, as the locator doesn't list part pricing. Make sure your speedo gear on the end is OK, as the cable does not come with them. If you need any other help, just ask. always glad to help out anyone.
Also, I tried to send this thru your email address, but it came back for some reason.
