I need help finding a replacement speedo cable. Have a 1965 F-100 with a 1970 390 with C-6 trans. Speedo cable bolts into the rear of the trans. When I pulled it out the platic teeth were green. Any help is welcome and thanks very much.
The books call for a cable around 75.42 inches long. The Ford part number is C7TZ 17260-AB . NAPA should be able to get you a cable by crossing the number I've listed. If not I found 9 NOS sellers that list having it. Send me a private message and I'll send the list to you.
If you have a Autozone neer by you can get a replacement speedo cable for about $17 bucks. it's about 83 inches long, it fits 61-64 ford trucks. Part Number CA-3010
Sounds like a universal fit for those years because of the length. With the extra 20 inches, watch out for hitting the exhaust. Makes them toast real fast!
so if both ends are alike it now becomes a routing issue.
I'm glad I found this site. you guys know your stuff, I figured out the gallery (sorta) I did put some pics in it I just have trouble updating it or at least adding pics let me know what you think. thanks for all the information
You can get the gears, count the teeth. It's also marked on the end with the count. You don't have to replace it unless it's missing teeth or they're worn down. The usually get dished in and the teeth are flat. Make sure you match it up if you replace it, because there are gears with the same number of teeth , but the pitch goes the other way. They also have 3 different lengths. The clip is a tough one to get. Most dealers don't stock them unless they ordered a bag of 10 to get one and are now stuck with the rest. Part number for the clip is C1DD 17292-A.
Barry thanks for the help. Cable is on the way from KAMA. had to shop around swome of those guys want 2 times as much as others. Thanks again and I'll post how it works out.
Barry I got the speedo cable yesterday. Its the wrong one. It has 2 screw on ends. I need one the screws in the back of speedo and there is a gear on the other end that is held in place by a bracket. Help me out guys thanks.
The one I listed is correct for that year truck. It basically covers that application from 65-72. I'll bet you've got a C6 out of a car in that truck. I'll have to search the car books as I just got a copy on CD rom. I'll post again later.
