http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7277061/ So hear we go again. After all the 2000's were recalled they are looking into 95-99,2001,2002. For the cruise control defect.
trying to cover all their bases. turns out good for them, all they do is deactivate it. when the replacement parts are out, i wonder if they will replace the defected parts free or expect everyone to buy them and than pay for to get the parts installed.
I would say that they would have to replace the part and cover the bill. You bought and truck with cruise control you should have it. Disconnecting it isn't a fix it is a cover up.
If I don't use the cruise control at all, is there a hurry to get it to a dealer to get looked at? I just don't have the time to sit there and I use my truck for work everyday.
anyone got any ideas?
I don't use mine either, but I did un-hook it for safety, took about 30 seconds. You can read more about it in the previous post about it:
I believe on page 3 there is a good pic of what to un-hook. After you un-hook it just put some electrical tape over both ends to keep any junk out of them.
I saw today on local news, government is investigating Ford for problems with 1995-1999 cruise control. I am excited, just another issue with the 99 F150.
Thank God! I am really glad that they are doing furthur investigating. Maybe I will be able to get my leaking cruise control switch fixed.
BTW, 1997 F-150 4.2L
Even if you don't use the cruise control it can still cause a problem. The switch in question has power to it at all times....ignition on or off. That's why it's scary. You can have your truck parked for the night and have it catch fire. Not really likely but possible.
