I had my recall taken care of at Camping World last year, they just add some extra shielding around the burner element. It doesn't take them very long to do it.
This recall is a joke. All the shield does is try to stop the fire once it starts. The problem is in the tubes on the frig being to thin. When the boiler tube brakes the ammonia gas comes out and starts a fire. Dometic knows about this problem since at least 2003, and will not fix it.
i work for rv dealer and done hundreds of this recall. also have seen many done incorrectly. the red wire with black sheilding around it must be behind the burner not over the gas valve, most common install error. dometic pays only .4 labor and someone who has done this recall before should be able to do it in about 10-15 mins. o yea make sure the sheild is around yhe 110 volt element, another thing missed often. last but not least the recall has been extended to more models and serial #s than first announced about 2yrs ago. happy campin

I had mine done in April and the tech installed the red wire with the thermo fuse inside so that it rubbed on the burner shield, it rubbed though and shorted out the 12 volts to the unit . The worst part was it happened when we where is the Yukon and the flying vampires had me for supper before I got it fixed
Mine was completed last year in about 15 minutes. I asked about it not cooling when on gas but worked great on electric. He suggested to make sure the the slits are clean on the burner, and to blow all the coils and such off. I used an electric leaf blower on low to blow it out. I was surprised at how much dust and other debris was in there. Clean the burner off with a brass brush. Works awesome now.
