what type of valve spring removing tool do I need to pull the springs on a 360 FE.
I dont want to take the heads off to do it and Ive seen a bunch of tools at summit but they all use the rocker stud for leverage, and all out rockers are on a single bar ....
anyone got any wise ideas ???

Make it Easy on yourself....I have a compressed air spring tool, that hooks to my compressor....Just pull the heads....Other wise your going to have to buy a Air Adaptor, that screws into the Spark plug hole to put pressure on the Valve's to keep from dropping them into the Cylinder!! And still need a Air spring tool to do the job.. And while the Heads are off you can bowl blend them and Port match too!! Then go with a bigger cam!! LOL!!
Awwwww!!! Life aint cheap when your talking Performance!!!! A Valve spring air compressor...is about $30..there not that bad....And Before you use the spring compressor...use a dead blow or a rubber mallet..and smack the top of the Valve springs in the center once or twice to loosen up the keepers from the Valve stems!!
It save from trying to pick them away from the stem once you have compressed the Valve!!
Funny I literally just finished this job myself 2 days ago here's what I did remove spark plugs crank engine by hand till piston was TDC then crammed with rope held everything in place nicly but it was time consuming. As for the tool I got one at Autozone for 15 bucks looks like a claw but it is a pieace of sh** but it did get the job done. Anyhow good luck and just relax and take your time.
Russ what spring compressor did you buy? $30 is pretty good and will it work on the dual springs w/dampner? I've tried the store bought POS ones but no good for dual springs. Other than spending $150+ on a good one the air tool sounds like the way to go. Thanks, G.

The claw type are junk! Sears sells a $20 c clamp thats works great on mild springs. As for dual springs I am still looking and i plan on $150 for one too. I would really like to get the ones that plug into the air compressor cause they are slick as crap.

I use an old rocker shaft and stands without the rockers and springs. You could just remove the rockers and springs in the area that you're working in. I attach the shaft and hook the hooks over the shaft, align the foot end of the compressor on top of the valve retainer and press, remove the locks and retainer and you're there. Of course you used the air line in the spark plug hole to hold the valve.
