2003 Super Duty, 5.4, 4x4, 5 speed,My son bought this truck used at a FORD dealership, along with the best extended warrenty they had. Three weeks later it started missing and low power. He took it back to the dealership and they said they replaced one spark plug and a coil, (under warrenty). OK that seemed to do the trick. Well it is three months later and it has the same symptoms, Now they are telling him that those parts would not be covered. I cant remember all the details, but it was an expensive warrenty package, (computer ,drivetrain ect.) Any Ideas what could be the problem. the check engine light has never came on yet. Thanks for any response.
You need to read the ext warranty contract.....If it's not covered pay for the last repair and get a full refund on your warranty. The coils are down to about $60 each at local auto parts.
Often one coil fail and then the others will follow. If the unit has +50,000 miles, we usually just replace them as a set at my shop.
The OEM plugs are dubble platinum, usually good for at least 80k.
59,000 miles, His fisrt real truck, and man is he bumming. It sounds like there must be an epedemic with these (on plug ignition coils) in the Kansas city area. allmost every auto parts store,s were out of them. They even looked them up on there computer to see if there other stores had any. NO they didn't. One part's store chain had 4 and they were almost twice the price. $70.00 as the ones That did not have any. $39.00. WHATS UP WITH THAT? One of the parts store hooked his truck up to a code reader and it showed no problems. what is the best way to find out which one is the problem. Thank's again for any help
