Pulse Vacuum Hubs

Has anyone ever had an issue with the sensor stem on the top of the knuckle rustion off? My 99' B3000's sensors are rusted and the hoses are falling apart. Is there a cheaper/easier way to fix this besides changing out the knuckle like my dealership told me. I would really prefer just forgetting about repairing that and converting to manual locking hubs but they all seem to be made for pre-98' models. Do the 97 and below aftermarket hubs fit or would i have to convert my front end?

Thanks,
Brandan

As far as I know they do not interchange. However I recall reading in here that you can modify the PV hubs to be full time, like the newer Rangers are. It may be long, but do a search in here.

I'm sorry to report that there is no confirmed source of replacement hubs for a PVH-equipped Ranger. A company in Brazil (AVM) claims to have something, but there is a lot of conflicting information as to whether or not they will work, and as of now nobody has ordered a set to try them out (to my knowledge, anyway).

You can read about the lack of replacment hubs and other issues related to the PVH system in this thread:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=113363

As Bill noted, there is a way to modify the PVH system to resemble something closer to what the newer Rangers use. The mod in essence takes the troublesome engagement of the wheel ends out of the equation:

Wouldnt modifying the hubs to full time engement decrease gas milage and put unneccesary strain on the front end?

Probably and maybe, but people claim it works. I have not tried it. The front axles spin all time but the transfer case is not engaged so no power is going to the front.

There is a way to "permanently" engage and disengage the hubs.

For example, in may case I use my 4x4 primamrily in the winter, and cannot tolerate having the 4x4 cut out on me at random on snowy roads.
In the summer I dont have as much use for it. So in may case, in the fall I plan to engage my front hubs. Leave them engaged until the end of March, at which point Ill reverse the process.

The details are on FTE someplace, but is is apparently a very simple procedure. Remove covers, depress "hub" replace cover. Reverse.

P.

Slightly and not really. After the PVH setup, Ford has now gone to full time hubs on the Ranger.

Might be that way on the Explorer or Escape, but not on the Ranger.

And is that something that could be done to the PVH Rangers? Can you convert the PVH ones to the 2001-up hubs?
