I just spent 2 hours getting my O2 sensor out. Finally ended up using a torch to heat it up.Well the problem is the threads inside the the pipe are basically gone. Does anyone know what size tap I need. Im pretty sure its a "3/4 16" .But I would really appreciate a second opinion.
my truck is a 1990 f150 4x4 302. thank you very much.
BTW, when you do put in the new O2 sensor, be sure to use some antisieze compound. Permatex and probably others make a silvery paste that is very good in preventing threaded items from siezing up. I use this stuff on O2 sensors, EGR fasterners, Exhaust bolts, Spark Plugs and a lot of other things.
It is good wherever there is siezing due to high temperature or dissimilar metals(Steel bolt in Aluminum part etc).
Makes disassembly later, much much easier. I have never had any part this was used one come loose at the wrong time. Be sure not to use if something says not to or where you are supposed to use some other compound.
Thank you for your help ,Yes I used anti-seize.Judging by the way the old O2 sensor came out the ford dealer didnt use any the last time it was replaced. My truck is like a whole diffrent animal with the new sensor.Increased power and idles excellent.I think its finally fixed(5 million tests later)My confidence in my ford
has been restored.
what brand of O2 sensor did you end up using? From your last post you sound pretty happy. I replaced my original with a GP sorenson and ended up putting the original back in. The GP was worse, truck wouldn't idle. Still needs a new one.
