Wind noise

Own a 77 f150 standard cab. Terrible wind noise. I am planning to order new weather stripping for both doors, but was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions, comments etc... on the best way to cut down on some of that noise so I can hear my stereo without blowing out my ear drums. Also any tips on making the weather stripping the most effecient it can be

Thanks

i'd have to say its probably just the weather stripping, my truck's weather stripping wasnt perfect but it was still pretty quiet. make sure you get the window seals too, those seem to be louder when they go, at least from my experience. also dont forget, these trucks arent very aerodynamic, so that might be where some of your wind noise is coming from

I installed door weather strip, window channels and anti rattle strips (felt wiper on bottom of roll down window). These things made a huge difference in the wind noise - especially the window channels. Next I'll be fixing the rusted floor and then coverning with bedliner, insulation and carpeting. That should help for road noise too...

I tried adding a second outer weather seal to the top of the doors to try and seal the gap. It didn't make much difference. I switched from a vinyl floor mat to carpet, and carpeted the area behind the seats below the window. It seems to me most of the wind noise is caused by the design of the external mirrors. I'll probably switch to the similar but smaller early 90's mirror heads mainly to get a convex right side mirror but I hope they'll be quiter. Wind noise and tire noise are about equal in my truck now, its still too loud but without fully covering the inside of the cab its probably as quite as it will get.

I went the same route, the wind noise in my 77 F250 was horrid. I replaced all of the weather stripping and it really quieted down. It has been about two years now and I have noticed that the noise is slowly returning.

Exactly How do you remove and install the anti rattle strips and I guess the window channels look sort of like weather striping and just pull out and press back in ? ??

I removed my door glass so that I would not risk cracking them when I did mine. I am sure there are people that dont remove the door glass to change the gaskets /anti rattles, but I did not want to risk breaking my original factory glass.

To remove the anti rattle strips, while standing and looking straight down in to the bottom of the window channel, take a flat blade screwdriver with the shank wrapped in tape to protect the paint, and slip the blade in between the anti rattle strip and the door , then pry toward the center of the window opening. The anti rattle strips are held in by "pushpins" fasteners , that expand when popped in to the fastener holes. The new ones just snap in, by using the same screwdriver to press on them with side ways pressure. ...

Just pull straight out on the old window gaskets to remove them and reinstall the new window gaskets by just pressing them in to place by utilizing the ribbed channels on them. jmo

I got lucky and found OEM's at my local Ford dealer in 2000. I think some of the sponsors here carry them too, like autokrafters.

not to get to simplistic... but if your doors are out of adjustment, or the hinges are sagging, then doors are not sealing properly...

I ordered a set of cab rubber from Jeff's bronco grave yard, it included all the door rubber, and the front and back glass rubber. They charged 200 bucks for the set, and it was pretty good quality. Plus they're a site sponsor.
