On my 93 E.B., I get alot of wind noise from the front edge of my doors, the weather stripping seems to be good and tight. I dont have this problem with my 91 F250 Anyone else have this problem?? Ive tried everything, Its driving me nuts.
VinMan, I've got the same problem on my '95 E.B. I can't find the problem either. I've had the problem almost from the day I drove it off the dealership lot. My '97 F-250 PSD has less wind noise.
Check the vents. (the triangle windows) They don't have much seal on em, so put some duct tape on the edges to check. If you don't use 'em, seal 'em up with some silocone.
Does the full size Bronco have a different door configuration than the pickups? Why would this problem happen only on the Bronco's? Anyway, on a completely different subject, I'm looking to invest some $$$$$ into my Bronco. Are there after market computer chips or programers or tuners or ???? for these vehicles. I've been dumping a lot of money into my '97 F-250 PSD, I thought I should give my E.B. Bronco the same attention. Any ideas or modification ideas would be greatly appreciated.....
Mine is very quite as far as wind noise, quiter than a 95 F150 that I bought brand new.
It's surprising, actually, since the trucks are basically the same shape.
However, sometimes I get a turbulence-type wind noise because of my Lund visor, it seems to happen when there is a crosswind. It can be annoying but I really like the shade from the visor, so it's a tradeoff.
I had those vent visors on it for a while but it didn't change anything. I took them off because you can't fully open the wing windows with them on, my buddy opened his to smoke and cracked the passenger side one.
That's true it's not the wing windows. I have ventvisors which would direct the air over the window and I still hear wind noise. It must be a typical thing with broncos. If the seals don't leak water then I wouldn't worry about it. My wing windows do leak water when I wash it though.
ut could be the antenna. I bought an antenna after mine was stolen(who steals the antenna......honestly?) It has the little wire wrapped around the antenna itself and it whistled something fearce. I got a new one again cause I couldnt deal with that. If youre sure its coming from the door, I wouldnt know what to tell you.
Take a slip of paper or a dollar bill and close the door on it where you think the wind noise is and pull it out. Then try it at different places in that same area. If the bill is easier to pull out in one place than the rest, you've probably found the source of the noise because you are not getting a good seal on the door at that spot. Putting a shim behind the weatherstrip will tighten up the seal and hopefully the noise will go away.
Saanders is right the paper thing works. My 82 f-100 had the same problem so I put shims behind the loose spots and the noise went away. My 88 Bronco has original weather striping and it is way quite on the inside even at 80 mph. I guess I got lucky, although every time I hit a pebble in the road my stupid tailgate makes a squeak that puts chills down your back!
You can check the vent windows by pulling them closed just a bit tighter than the latches actually hold them. If that cures the problem , slip a penny, or thicker coin between the latch and the chrome latch strike plate. This will force the latch to hold the window shut tighter. The driver's side on my 93 is terrible so I use a nickel. The rubber seals around the window are fine so I see no need to go replacing them. I have considered figuring out a way to permanently add a nylon or plastic washer or similar object to the latch so I don't drop the nickel into the map pocket every time I open the vent window. Just an idea.
My driver side is that way too, I've noticed it leaks in heavy rain as well. That shim idea looks good, but I don't know excatly where the noise is coming from. Guess i'll have to get out there and play with it. -BBB
My drivers side door makes a lot of noise too. I think the reason is I put my weight on it every time I climb into my truck and it doesnt line up perfectly up top anymore. Im hoping i can just buy a new hinge or something...
