I still haven't gotten the deal with the guy on e-bay sorted out (the one I bought the Unilite from with no vac. advance, that cashed my money order and never sent the part). I bought a used one from a kid that is into fords. He said it came out of the 428 in his Fairlane (maybe Galaxie, can't remember). He said it was in the engine when he bought it and didn't know how many miles were on it. This one has vac. advance and is relatively clean. I bought it for 125 bucks. I am thinking about sending it to Mallory to get it "gone through" if they do that sort of thing... Should I use the gear off of my stock distributor that is in my engine for wear pattern issues? I can't be sure yet but I think the old stock dizzy is going bad and the carb probably is due for a kit. It hasn't been getting as good of gas mileage as it used to and doesn't seem to run as strong as it used to. Is there any checks that I can do to the Mallory distributor to see if it really needs a rebuild?

Can't help you with the Mallory Qs, but I'd run the old gear if it fits the shaft of the Mallory. No sense in wondering about compatibility with the cam.

Most newer dizzy's have roller bearings instead of brass bushings. Wiggle the shaft and see if it moves. Probably won't. Bolt it in and go. Only if drive gear is wasted should you worry about replacing it. Wear patterns don't matter since the actually "load" is very light. The only resistance is the oil pump.
Ya What Larry said!!! LOL!! But if you feel you really need to have it checked..Find a shop in your area that has a Distributor Machine....and have them run it...threw the RPM range and check for shaft run out...and also to see if it has any timing jump at higher rpm's that would be a sign of bearing wear... Good Luck!!
