I am in the process of replacing the ball joints on my 92 ford bronco.
What is the trick to removing the spindle it seems to be rusted to the knuckle. Do i need to heat it up with a torch or just bang the crap out of it.
Also any preferences on where i should buy the ball joints at, i was thinking of Napa, greasable of course.
A good soaking with PB Blaster and keep pounding away in a star pattern taking care not to damage the threads. Use a dead blow mallet, the heaviest one you can find, or a drilling hammer with a block of oak wood. Once it starts to move you can place chisels or between the gaps between spindle and knuckle and keep working it off by pounding the opposite sides and wedging with the chisel. There is a spindle puller you can thread on and use with a slide hammer to remove them also. I would never use heat on these parts. I bought my ball joints at autozone, they are greasable and made by perfect circle.
Just did mine took a few wacks with a 3 pound hammer. Actually the easiest ball joints I ever changed. I had the axles out and spindles off too. Oregon is pretty mild not a lot crust on'em.
Just remember; Get a Bigger hammer! Hit it Harder!
