OK here goes I am new to this but not my 96 Bronco.
Replacing upper ball joints and have a problem.
I CAN NOT REMOVE BALL JOINT.
It looks like the Camber adjuster is rusted to the ball joint
I have used forks to break loose, to the point of the ball seperating from its
housing. Great now the steering knuckle is out of the way.
I do not remember on that model if you may require a ball joint press? Did you try heating it up with a torch and then breaking it loose? Do you have pictures you can share with us?
Do you have a place to host them on a site such as superford.org? If so all you would need to do is right click on the picture, select properties and copy the address (URL). Then get into this thread, click respond and click the Insert Image button (Mountain with the sun) icon. Paste the image into the popup and post the thread. Let me know if you need anymore help.
Holy crap, dude. How did you get the ball out of the joint? It's not supposed to come apart that way.
Here's what you do. Take the castle nut and put it back on the ball joint stud. Then beat the snot out of it with the biggest hammer you can find. A 5lb or so usually works best. If you don't put the nut back on, you'll mushroom the threads out, and you'll have an even harder time getting it apart.
you need to get the camber bushing out by pushing it UP. Grind a flat on the ball joint ball and set up the press just like you would to take the ball joint out of the knuckle. The mushroomed stud won't come out of the camber adjuster, so it will have to come out of the axle housing. you need a ball joint press at this point. a big hammer will most likely bend the axle housing before the camber bushing pops out. They are only about $50. I've seen alot of them seperate like that.
I used a pitman arm puller (had to custom grind slightly to get the width needed) to pull the factory camber bushing out. Use lots of PB Blaster or equivalent.
