I am working on a 302FI to 351 carb swap. I am trying to get everything that I need ahead of time (novel idea). I know that I need the flywheel (manual trans) from the 351. Will the exhaust manifolds from the 302 fit? I have read that the exhaust is different but if the manifolds are the same can I use the existing y-pipe and exhaust? Also is it better to just unhook al the computer wiring and leave in place or should I totally remove it all? I do plan on removing the fuel pumps so I don't need the computer for anything that I know of but it is a whole lot of wires to trace and remove.

the cast manifolds are the same but the Y pipe/crossover is different as the 351 is wider by about 2in.. Shouldn't hurt to leave the wiring in place. What are you going to use for a dist. and wiring /module as the unit on the 302 wont fit the 351 and you need a aftermarket unit or a durasparkII for a 351 and then either a ford module or aftermarket or gm hei module which is probably the easiest to wire as it only requires a hot lead from your ignition switch, for deatails look up durasparkII on the internet. The ford module requires a ballast resistor in the run circuit and none in the start circuit, these are present in your wiring but can be a trick to find.
Didn't think about the distributor. I am trying to do this inexpensively so which would be the easiest and cheapest. The motor that I will be getting already has the distributor in it. What is the best way to approach this?
Not sure. Local salvage yard. I believe that it is an '86. I know that in '87 a 351w carbed was available. By the way is anyone looking for a 302 EFI? I believe that the injectors are bad as it has sat in the truck for 3 years without starting and now no fuel to cylinders. That is why I am changing motors. I am just not ready to give up on carbs yet. I will embrace fuel injection when I have no other choice, or when gas prices hit $3 a gallon, most likely this summer. I just don't have the patience to test all the sensors and whatnot on an EFI. I just find a crab much easier to work with, nothing to tuning and simple.
the dist will work, with a ford or gm module , for the gm go to this site www.gofastforless.com/ignition/tfi.htm and it's well explained and they work well. For the ford module I believe the green wire at the ballast resistor connects to the white on the module and the white/blue stripe connects with the red, one advantage to the ford once you have it wired right is that it retards your timing on the start circuit allowing for more initial adv. without hard starting.
