i want to replace the knocking 302 in my bronco with a 351w out of my 96 f250. It is going to be rebuilt and is flat tappet. I am going for low end torque here. Plans for the motor is for it to be bored out and honed, crank polished and a rebuild kit. Crane 444232 camshaft, 1.7RR, full exhaust and MSD ignition.
Heres what i have:
92 bronco 302 with E4OD
33" tires
3.55 ls rear end
I have a complete 96 f250 351w/e4OD parts truck i want to use. Is this a pretty straight forward swap? I know that i need a new y-pipe, but it is getting LT headers on it. What brand of headers fit this bronco best? Emissions arent a problem around these parts, so cat and emissions stuff will be removed.
So what i *think* ineed to do is use the engine harness from the 302 motor and plug it into the 351w computer. Is there anything else i need to watch for? Will the 302 flex plate work with the 351w?
Yes the '96 motor should already have a decent roller cam so just reuse it. No you can't use the 302 flexplate it has 50oz imbalance and the 5.8 has 28oz.
The 96 original engine with 230000was replaced with the one out of the truck in my signature when I put that rebuilt motor in my truck. So it has the small flat tappet cam in it with a new distributor with cast gear on it.
