Does anyone know how much wheight the bed tiedown stakes will take? Seems like they are only screwed into the thin sheet metal. if you tied something down to them how much force/weight would it take to rip them off? I want to avoid this at all costs but need to put a camper in the truck and secure it to get it home. I'll be doing belly bars later but I have to pick up the camper before I can get the belly bars on. Any other ideas would be welcomed.
If push comes to shove, hold it down with cargo straps & ratchets. Use pieces of angle iron to protect the campers edges & check the tension on the straps frequently.
AL.
Thanks for your response dealford this was what i was thinking of doing. I was goin to attach the cargo straps to the tie downs in the stake pocket. You think they'll hold or should I tie down somewhere else?
With the tie-downs IN the bed, and the camper ON the bed, I'd feel more comfortable securing the camper around the truck, not in it. Even without the belly bars, you could still go around the bed and tie down to the frame. Obviously using high rated ratched straps. Just my 2 cents...
98xlt4x4 I haven't bought the camper yet but I'm going friday to look at one that sounds real promising if it works out I'll need to get it home that day. It's a ways away from me so I don't want to go back to get it.
A goldberg03 I think that's probably a smarter move. Do you think the straps running under the bottom of the quarter panel will put pressure on the body and dint or wreck it there?
It's possible. Try to run them where theres support. Maybe use the wheel wells or near the front or rear of the bed. You could also put towels around the straps so they dont scratch the paint.
Just make sure it's tied down well, you might be able to use the hitch somehow for the rear tiedowns. Maybe run the front straps in front of the bed, and down to the frame. Whatever you do, take some pictures for us
Well that camper fell through. I'm getting a little frusterated with all this but maybe it works out for the better. I'll be able to gt actual tiedowns on the truck this weekend so i may not need to do this type of tie down after all. Who knows though maybe I'll just end up finding one before the weekend.
