Going to get a cabover camper, i need to know how some of you guys tied down ya,ll, especialty in the front, back would be no problem. If some one could show pictures that would be great.
Thanks Jim
The original owner of my camper used the bumper mount tie downs for the back end. Our bumpers are hell for stout between the frame members but way too weak at the ends. It bent the bumper up quite a bit. He mostly straightened it out but I can still see a bit of distortion.
He then fabricated mounts that went through the hitch cross tube. It is just a simple 2"x2" steel tubing that goes right through the hitch. He put eye bolts on the end and pins at either side of the hitch to keep it in place. It works well. Since it's a dually the tie down is no wider and I just leave it in. For a SRW you'd probably want to pull it out to not be a shin buster.
The front tie downs are the happyjack through bed tabs. They have 1/4" steel brackets that go in between the cab and bed. They are threaded and 4 bolts go through the front wall of the bed.
My camper is around 4,400lbs with everything in it and they work fine.
You're probably 50+ years younger than Jim is too! Respect your elders!! Just kidding, I'm bored.
Its fine. We all get that way
Like right now... Im basically asking myself what way I want to spend my money. Researching projects and links to projects on FTE can be hazardous to your wallet's health.
Ive got a CB and whips to go on here soon and my passenger side window motor is dying so im swapping that out.. SO while its apart I may as well find other cool stuff to do..
Mine's set up with the front tiedowns mounted to the frame and the rear attached to a Superhitch.
If you pull a trailer behind you truck loaded with a truck camper...
I use this for a hitch to pull my trailer and Jeep behind the setup and I would honestly not cheap out on the extended hitch if you're pulling weight on it It has the mounts built in for the rear tiedowns too.
That is a good looking setup you have there Lud04x. I will need to be getting one of those extended hitch's for my rig when I find a new camper.
My old camper was tied down in the front of the bed with these brackets that bold through the bed and they have a brace on the inside of the bed. The back was tied to the rear bumper. I'm not sure I will stick with that setup when I get another camper.
Thanks. I went with the hitch because its an expensive Jeep on the back and I don't want to lose it. Torklift says you can tow up to 15,000 lbs on the extended hitch so I might be overkill for me but its worth it. I went with frame mounted tie ins due to the 3500lb camper in the bed.
I am looking for a camper like you have also. What size is it? I looked at a new Arctic Fox but the price scared me off for buying new. So I am looking for a used one just a few years old. I think I will go with the frame mount also.
Mine is a 2004 9.5ft 950 Eagle Cap Camper. It's got a slideout, A/C, propane generator, nice bathroom, lots of space, big fridge, stereo, microwave, and a queen bed. I got it from Russ Dean RV in Pasco,WA in 2009 for $12,000. This things are like $30,000 new but quickly drop within 5 years.
I really like the whole setup, just need a little more juice in the truck but have to get gauges and maybe a DP tuner chip.
