iwas told to put a little methal hydrate in each tank to get rid of water in fuel and prevent freeze up,then i was told on this site that it is hard on your injectors what should i do a little should not hurt should it?
I have no idea what methyl hydrate does, but I would assume that the FWS will do a good enough job of clearing up the little water that may condensate in the fuel. If you are having major problems with water in your fuel, you should probably purchase it somewhere else. JMO
I believe it is methenal. and I think it would be bad idea, the methanol would eat anything rubber in your fuel system, and possible damage injector. if you having problems with water buid up run an addative, or install and after market water/fuel seperator. also parking your vehicle in a heated garage my seam nice, but your actually causing more problems. condensation from the cold fuel, and the warm garage will cause water to collect in your tank, oil, and any other fluids.
I would just ran a fuel addative, like I already do, and at 0* and below I have never had a freeze up problem.
Basically, methyl hydrate is like alcohol in that it is soluble in water or petrol, in this case diesel fuel. Because of these properties, it is sometimes added to diesel or gasoline because it will effectively "attach" itself to the water in the fuel and allow it to pass through the engine. It acts like an emulsifier for the water and fuel. I would agree with dieselrod in this case, because of the rubber O-rings and seals present, I think the alcohol properties would cause them to swell or worse. Also, I would think it would reduce the lubrication in the fuel, possibly damaging your injectors.
Sounds like you will have a much bigger problem than a little water in tank. Load it up with some diesel kleen and hit the highway at about 80 mph until you run it all out.
IMO, adding that stuff would be alot like adding gas to your tank.
Better yet, just purge the water from your tank as per your owners manual and change your fuel filter.
I agree on the use of DK, but if it's that bad, I'd use PS 911 right after I purged the system and changed the filter.
I had a real bad case of water in the fuel and bacteria in the tank when I bought this truck, I ran one tank of DK treated fuel at the max amount, changed the filter and purged the tank, ran one more tank of DK at the max followed by 2 tanks of PS 911, now it's clean as a whistle!
I'll be changing the fuel filter again in about 1000 mi....I've only run about ~1800 mi on the new filter so far.
Keep your tank full from a station that sells a lot of fuel, and your problems should go away.
