NASCAR'S New Impoud rule

What doe's everyone think of the impound rule where they impound the cars after qualifying unitl raceday? I read thier reasoning is to help the smaller teams stay in budget. I think the idea stinks. People spend alot more money on Jr. and Gordon stuff and want to see the big names as much as possible, and see them run well. I can't remember the last time I saw a Derrick Cope jacket.

personally, I think if it takes the edge from some drivers who can afford to do more to their cars to make things more "fair", then so-be-it.

I always thought Nascar was supposed to be about the best driver winning the race - if you make it all about money (which I'm sure it already is...which makes this a moot point), it'll be just like everything else - like the Yankees winning the most World Series because the owner has deeper pockets than everyone else. How often have you heard things like that? It seems to be a trend nowadays...he who has the most $$$ wins. It's probably been like that forever...

I like the current New Balance commercials - "For Love or Money?"

Our professional sports aren't about the game anymore...it's all about paychecks and endorsements, driven by the almighty dollar...it's sad really... (stepping down from soapbox now).

I don't have a problem with the new rule. It was always stated in past years that the Roush drivers preferred to qualify in something near race trim. As a result, they usually didn't start high on the starting grid. They raced well but had to work their way through the field. The new rule has forced all the teams, should they wish to race well at the start of the race, to qualify in something near race trim.

The qualifying results at California and Las Vegas have reflected this difference. The Roush drivers in general are now near the front of the grid. Whether the rule stays or not, and whether the starting grid continues to reflect the new rule, remains to be seen.

I am a Martin/Kenseth fan, but when it comes down to it I don't care who wins as long as there is a blue oval on the nose.

I think it's a good idea. It makes the driver actually have to drive the car because it may not be so dialed in as it would be if they had hours and hours of practice to tune on it. After they tune it for hours, they could prolly put a monkey in there, and he could win the race I always thought Jeff Gordon's face always looked fake.....maybe he really is a monkey!!!

IMHO, I think practice would help the smaller teams that don't have the oodles and oodles of data from the last 10 years racing on the track and the same cars that they raced there 4 times already. Also, getting the car dialed in before the race will help to ensure better racing, less cautions/crashes from cars being loose or tight. The smaller teams don't have "The best of the best" like Roush or DEI, and have much more guess work than the "Super Teams". I think practice would help more than hurt the small teams. But, what do I know?

I'm a firm believer in "racing what you qualify". Keep the impound and get rid of this "lucky dog" crap. While they're at it they can reconfigure the restart order (lapped cars should be behind leap lap cars).

Just my two cents...

Same here brother! Go Roush, especially 6 and 17 (Check my gallery, I have 6 and 17 stickers on my truck)! My comments about the new rule mirror yours.

I personally like the new rule and am actually sick of seeing Jr. the ultimate example of money making the driver he wouldn't even have been able to qualify to drive nascar if it wasn't for daddy, and these rules just help keep the game fair I mean the way it was you could run anything you wanted to get the poll position and have an advantage in race trim, so qualifing actually had nothing to do with making it in the race kinda like if they allowed NHRA prostock drivers to qualify with a top fuel funny car it wouldn't be allowed but basically was in nascar.

Every team with $$$ get's around that rule anyway. Why do you think so many CUP drivers are driving BUSH cars especially if the race is at the same track. They get information about the bush car and apply it to the cup car as much as possible.

I'd like to see NASCAR revert back to the old days, no restrictor plates, no engine ci limitations just what ever the manuafactors best production engine is in a stock body car going at it . I want to be able to tell what a ford is or a chevy or dodge.

I wish they would take it one step farther. 2 day shows for the day races and 1 day shows for the night races. Busch cars and the truck series have done the 1 day show before. Show up, unload, practice, qualify, race. Like we do it at the local dirt track. There is no need for teams to be at the track(more importantly, away from home) from Thursday to Sunday.
