Please Help Soon With Window
My window is stuck and I can't get it up. Its an electric window on an 88 Bronco. Pretty sure its not the fuse b/c last time the fuse went out the turn signal, etc. did, too. This time everything works except for the passenger side window. Used to be I could bang on it and it would work. Not anymore. Nothing will make it go up. I had to have my driver's side widnow motor rebuilt about 2 years ago, and this has the same symptoms. However, last time it was stuck while being up. I am in college so I don't have a garage. I don't like using plastic because I have to park it in a parking lot 24/7. I called a mechanic and got a quote for 300 bucks. Is this right? Seems outrageous! I realize that its hard to get to the window motor, but 300 bucks?!!! Please, for the sake of my interior, help me figure out what to do.

Seriously, I couldn't resist that - but it looks like you need a new motor for the window. However, due to the fact that you used to be able to hit it and make it work, it may be something as simple as a loose connection anywhere from the switch to the pw motor, so it is worth taking the panel off and inspecting everything. And while you have it apart, you can run straight twelve volts and ground to the motor and see if it works at all.
If the motor is bad, many people have had good luck repairing the motors with a kit or even with stuff that you can buy at the hardware store. That is the cheapest way out. You should be able to find directions on the Net or from someone here (I haven't had the "pleasure" of having to do it). Next is to buy an aftermarket motor on eBay or somewhere. That still won't be near $300. As long as you are capable of doing the work yourself. I just looked them up on eBay and found them for $49. Search "Ford power window motor."
My truck had both of the motors replaced not too long before I bought it and they work great. I think that they used Ford parts, I hope they did. I put a Ford rear window motor in when I had to change it.

I have heard that the job is incredibly laborious. That and the fact that it will take time for shipping, etc., I'm worried that it will take a while for me to do. That would be fine if it was stuck up. However, since it is stuck down, I'm afraid I need it rather quickly. Oh well, I may just try to find someone else to do it cheaper.
I knew someone was going to make a Viagara joke.

I replaced both my window motors, It's not a hard job. You will need to drill out a few spots on your door frame and expect to lose a little skin if you have big hands. I bought my window motors at NAPA, they were less than $75 each. I would check your wiring first, it could be a switch or ground problem. The motors are reverse polarity, there are 2 leads, one to ground, the other to 12 volts, when you reverse them the motor runs the other way. If you have a bad contact in either the driver or passenger switch they won't work.

for a Quick fix you can take the arm out of the window track, push the window up and use a stick or something to hold the window up, atleast your truck will be secure till you figure out whats going on. while your in there check to see if anything is binding up and check the wires and connectors, if I remember correctly the motor assembly might be rivited on the door panel so if you get a new motor you'll need to get some nuts, bolts and washers to reinstall it.

I've had all my window motors replaced in every vehicle I have. Currently my driver's side window of my '88 Bronco has been stuck up since I bought it, and because I've gotten tired of every window but that working, I bought the Window Regulator for $80 from my local CarQuest, and am paying a local body shop to put it in for me on Wednesday, It isn't hard to replace myself but I just dont have the time to do it, so I'm paying the $80 to get it done in an hour. So for $160 I will have my window working again on Wednesday.

I'd probably pay $160 for them to do a regulator, usually the regulators are a PITA although I have not had to do one in my Bronco. It's worth it to me, especially in winter because who wants to be out in the cold fixing a window. But he was talking $300 for just a motor, that's crazy.

I'll bet the problem is on the ground side. The switch provides the 12 volts through one wire and the ground through the other, when you push the switch the other way it reverses the power and ground. My back window has 12 volts when I put the switch to raise but the window doesn't move, the ground through the factory switch is bad. If I jump the one wire to ground, the window raises fine. Have you checked the wiring with a meter or test light? If so find the one with power wqith the switch at raise and ground the other wire. this will test the ground circuit.
