AC, Defrost, Vent control cable

AC, Defrost, Vent control cable
85 f 150 I have only defrost that works. I know what the problem is but cant find what i am looking for to fix it.
Problem: the cable that hooks to the control arm on the back of controls is gone. I have one but I can not find the other part that it hooks to.
I can puch the vacum things and the air flow changes. I can stick my hand in the vent box and move the door. But I have not found anywhere to hook the other end of cable to. I have the Haynes book and know what it looks like but it dont show where it is?
Do I have to take the dash complete out to get to this part? I have removed the glove box, sterio and still no luck.
