GOOD post iy is very important to break it in right but that has nothing to do with my truck as this is my 3rd diesel and the break in was done right on all of my trucks, also in my case the couple of mowers and grass weigh 12k pulled 5 days a week.
Also some one mentioned running premium#2 that is a marketing scam there is no such thing, ask any fuel delivery man they will laugh they only have #1 or #2 and most of the time all the diesel in a city comes from the same place, the thing you have to watch for is water in the fuel, and that is why most tell you to buy at station that sells alot.
I haven't pulled much very heavy and mine gets good mileage and is breaking in well according to the oil analysis I get periodically.
As far as short trips go, it's not good for a gasser either.
As far as fuel goes. There is one tanker for gasoline and one tanker for diesel. Additives are added later depending on brand, octane, etc. Its the similar additives you get at Wally World, the Zone, etc. In my gasser, or my 6.0, I buy the least expensive fuel and add in Stanadyne with the diesel and once a month throw in a bottle of Techron for the gasser.
Thanks for the input guys. I still have some time to think about it. The mileage won't be a huge factor either way, no more miles than I drive my truck. And what little extra mileage you might get out of a diesel is now being offset by the price of diesel fuel.
I've always liked and wanted a diesel & I believe that I won't be satisfied without one. But it sure would be disappointing to get a bad one after all the excitement of getting a new truck. Haven't had a new one in quite a long time. It's a tough decision though because a V10 Lariat CC with all the nice features can be had for $3000 less than a 6.0 XLT CC.
