Well, I had enough of the problems and have decided to trade the Ford F-350, for a truck that works and has better fuel mileage. Before Everyone here jumps down my throat about how great their truck is, let me just tell you this. Buying a New Ford is like throwing the dice, You got about a 80-20 split in getting a truck that runs right or for that matter has great fuel mileage, 80 being your odds of buying a truck with a fix me Daly license plate on it. I own 2 new Fords and have been a Ford man for over 18 years and I have had my fill of being a test and drive subject for ford. I have been to 7 different ford technicians and all of them told me the same thing, we have our good ones and then we have our headaches and lately we have been more on the side of the headaches with the new Fords. From just the Mileage point of view my first Ford is doing around 15 average and is still running OK but it only has 15k on it, my second Ford has just over 5K and it averages 8 to 10 mpg. And there is nothing you can do about it, believe me I have tried everything and the flat out answer you get from Ford is there is no Guarantee on Mileage.
Now on the other side of the fence, Dodge trucks are getting the mileage and they have a little fewer problems than the New Fords. I know because I have asked around to people who have fleets of trucks and they have said to me the tried the new Fords and have found them to be temperamental. And if Ford had the option of the cummings diesel they would have used in their trucks to make them pass the emissions standards instead of the 6.0.
And to be honest the fact that the 6.0 can come of the line faster means nothing in the world of the working guy, reliability and cost is the factor and Ford seems to lost in this department.
So, I will have the New 2005 Dodge truck and my other 2004 Ford truck to compare the actual differences between them both. Because I am planing a long trip and will towing to Identical trailers and we will see which one comes out on top.
Good luck with the new . But come on 80 out of a 100 trucks would have problems ????? My 04 is in for the trans. recall . They told me they sell hundreds of diesels and they can count on one hand how many have been back with constent problems . I still believe your one of few that feel this way overall .
Boy now this a thread I like a comparison between Dodge and Ford. Sorry about your bad experiences. Please keep posting about your experiences with the Dodge. Its no fun having a truck with problems. Good Luck
well, ive been in the used truck business for 13 years. And a good rule of thumb when buying a vehicle is NEVER EVER buy a vehicle with a goat or a star on the hood! All kidding aside Dodge has its share of problems as well. They have a great motor.Arguably the best diesel made.BUT....the rest of the truck is junk.80% of all Dodge trucks that i get at my lot need a new dash. They break like peanut brittle. The trannys are horrible.Anything over 100K the tranny will go in and out of lock up.I drive a 2005 ford diesel(my 5th) simply because i can get ALOT more for a used Ford diesel than any Dodge or Chevrolet.Resale value on a Ford is 20 to 30 percent higher than the rest.Resale value alone should speak volumes on who makes the best truck. Its too bad that you might have got a lemon in a Ford diesel. If you think that you are upset now with the problems that you are having,Wait till you try and trade that Dodge in.lol You better hope it runs for 150k because you are gonna be stuck with it till you pay it off!!GOOD LUCK....P.S. But i am sure when you trade it in it will be that darn cheating used car dealer that wont give you any money for that Dodge.....Surley i couldnt be Your error in buying it to begin with!!
Its the dead ends you hear from the dealerships that makes it unbearable to stomach.
Try and get a dealer buy back for a truck that does not have the same problem 3 times. try a new problem everytime you start it, and all you get when you walk through the door of the service center is ( what now ). and Ford doesnt want to hear it, so what do you do???? live with it

In an unbiased world this would be a great opportunity for a long term side by side comparison. Unfortunately, though, it is not.
It is obvious that you are already biased against the Ford 6.0. Once biased it would be human tendency to look primarily for the bad since you will want / need to justify your switch to Dodge.
Well..due to the very nature of this thread and the direction it is sure to go I will take this opportunity now to wish you luck before it gets locked.
My only request is that, while you visit us from time to time with your comparisons, you keep in mind that this is first and foremost a Ford Truck Enthusiasts site.
Its going to be a sad realization to the guy on Fuel mileage, I speak of ONLY 1 ton trucks.. ie.. 3500's and 350's... DRW 2 and 4 wheel drive.. the Cummins is only getting 9-11 mpg.. and the 6.0's are only getting 8-11. Mind you we have a clan of pulling horse trailers, and we all pull heavy trailers, and the trucks are fairly equally equipped.. so we have real world hauling figures, when we can all go the same distances before we start hunting fueling stations.
Well, you may have bought a reliable engine, but, you downgraded by far on the truck side. Dodges fall apart and are pretty much just built cheap all around. The 600 cummins has its share of probems so I wouldn't be to sure about the trade ur about to make. A dodge will not pull heavy loads like a powerstroke will. Well, they won't with ease such as the 6.0 powerstroke. A bud has a 600 cummins and i can blow his doors off pulling a hill even if I am pullin a heavier load...............

TRUCKS WITH GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATINGS OVER 8,500 POUNDS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE EPA FUEL ECOMONY RATING SYSTEM. FUEL ECONOMY INFORMATION ON THESE MODELS IS GENERALLY NOT AVAILABLE BECAUSE OF WIDE VARIANCES IN VEHICLE LOADING AND OPERATIONAL CONDITIONS BETWEEN VARIOUS CUSTOMER APPLICATIONS.
Id give anything to be in the Dodge service drive when that truck falls apart!!!!and id give twice that to be the dealer to tell ya what your truck is worth in 3 years!!!
Well I don't know about y'all but I didn't buy the truck for the fuel mileage. I am getting around 15-16mpg though so in my book that is just one more plus. I thought these forums were used primarily to find information about anything dealing with your truck and hopefully through a wealth of information, find a solution. Not just complain and tell everyone you are done with the 6.0. Just my thoughts though. Anyway good luck with the dog.
Well Navypowerstroker, we are still what you seek. Informative, sharing, exploring, etc...And yes, sometimes some folks are more enthusiastic about getting their negative message out than we are about hearing it.
In the defense of some, I have to say...well... they have had a horrific time with what was supposed to be their pride and joy. Only to turn into a nightmare.
Between A.I., mechanical, dealership, Ford corporate, and even self induced issues they have become frustrated and despondent. Gots to share that with someone. What better venue to strike revenge than at an enthusiasts site.
The only time I get going after them is when they start the "everything is and forever shall be bad" syndrome. Or, "is anybody out there that has NEVER been to the dealer for warranty" What is that fishing for? Nothing good I can assure you.
Escaping hits around here, after comments like that...well..it would be easier to pick ticks aff a porcupine. If you know what I mean.
Gees...that soapbox is like a magnet...draws me onto everytime I get close.
Oh, well....what are you gonna do. Run me over with a Dodge?
Anyway Navy...keep the faith man....the Enthusiasts forum still lives.
what is really disgusting in todays vehicles is that the price tag goes up and the attitude is what do you want its only 45k. think I am joking then look at the trade in value of your new truck, regardless of the make. Pay 45 k drive down the turn around and its worth 37k. My point is to show that its ok for Ford to write you off hoping you will go away or trade it, but in todays world who has the time to fight and leave your truck parked while you wait until they review your truck. Its wonder more people dont see this as a problem,if your washing machine or toilet didnt work would you except it breaking down daly and just shrug your shoulders and say it happens.
