Hello Ford Owner's
I installed a B&M electronic
Shift Improver kit in my'96 E4OD tranny,it has two setting's #1.firm & fast,
#2.hard & faster,#3.off compleatly,,seem's to
work very well but will it
harm the tranny in any way?

I thought the same thing to when I started reading about the shift kits. But as it turns out the more line pressure that is used the less slippage there is in the clutch pack which in turn means longer life. Hope this helps.

Alot of people I have talked to have had the plug in shift kits fry there trannies, but dont take my word for cuz I dont actually know, all I have is heresay but not good heresay !
I've had the good fortune to have 3 trannies rebuilt over the past two years (in 3 different vehicles). My tranny mechanic put the B&M shift kit in all three because he likes the solid shift and limitations on clutch slippage. The last one was in my daughter's C***y Lumina with a wimpy V6 and it runs great.
I've had the B&M Shift Plus in vor over 2 years now and no signs of problems. I usually only turn it on when out wheelin as the shifts are a bit to firm for my liking....especially the 3rd to 4th shift.

Just personal opinion based on having shift kits put into two vehilces over the years.
I have not had any failures with the internal shift kits. One kit was for a Dword "hot rod" with very firm shifts and high stall converter. The other is in my 94 F250 4x4 460 with E4OD for towing purposes. Both trannies were rebuilt while the kit was installed.
I have heard that if you go for the very firm setting you might have some problems with the drive train such as stress on rearend, engine, tranny, drivetrain mounting points etc. All depends a lot on how you drive too. If you drive "normally and don't go too wild with the kit I think everything will be fine. The shifts can be a bit "snappy".
The word of warning I will give is that some of the time you might not be in the mood for the snap that a lot of these kits give. Kind of fun at first but sometimes the occasionally jarring shift may be irritating.
I used the kits because I needed better shifting for a "hot rod" or I tow a lot and wanted more durability and a better shift pattern for towing.
Another warning is that some of the "race only" kits will allow you to drop your tranny into any gear you want at any speed. Tons of excitement if say for example you accidentally drop it into first on the freeway at about 70mph, been there done that, never again. Don't know if this applies to Ford trannies.
Thank's for all the feedback fella's,keep on a 'Fordin....
