Wheelbase?

I'm planning to purchase a Superduty with the V10, but I am undecided about the wheelbase I will get. I'm presently pulling a 5,000lb TT but could be pulling a 10,000lb fifth wheel in the future. The great thing about Ford is that I can choose a wheelbase anywhere from 137" to 172". My question to some of you more knowledgeable folks is what significance does the length of wheelbase have in towing? What are the pros and cons of differrent wheelbase lengths? Thanks.

Longer wheelbase is ALL pro when it comes to towing; parking, however, is a different story..........

I am upgrading from an Exped (119" WB) to a F350 CC/V-10 based on the WB. I was getting bounced around way to much. I'm hoping the SD will be more stable. I too was unsure if a LB or SB was better, it's only a $200 price difference. I tow a 7500# TT 15% of the time, the other time my wife carts the kids around. I just ordered the SB (156"WB). After test driving the two, I saw a difference in local driving.

Lets hear more pros and cons of different wheelbase lengths for towing?

Thanks

Wheelbase considerations could be directly proportional to your driveway entrance/exit width, and obstructions (also wifey)....not a problem there?, then STRECTCH it out. Will tow like a cadillac. (can I say that here?)

Wheelbase will make a better ride, the longer the wheel base, the better the ride, but as stated, driving it can make for a different story, as sharp turns just aren't going to happen.

I had a F250 SB,SC towing a 6000 TT. I got an F350 CC, LB last year and it is a smoother ride when it comes to towing. IT is also alot more stable on the icy roads than the short wheel base I had. As for parking. I just use two spots. .

Make it a Lincoln and you will be fine.

I got F-350 LB CC and unless the trailer is bad (the work one has collapsed springs) it pulls so much better, BUT forget about fitting in one space. Normally I back in (covers most of a sidewalk) or park at the end of the row where I don't affect so many pepole.

I don't even consider anything but a long wheel based truck for towing or other uses. If I can't lay a sheet of plywood flat in the back then I'm not buying it. I'm also not got to buy a slider hitch so I can pull my 5ver and have a SB truck just because it turns tighter...
Can't see why so many people can't park an LB truck, I park right at the front of most lots and my F-350 CC, LB, DRW truck fits in the spots just fine without blocking anyone. Besides, if they don't like it then let that soccer mom park that worthless Hummer someplace else.

For my needs, I do like an 8' bed and in buying a Super Duty there is another small advantage to the long bed. That is the larger gas tank in the LB. These big trucks are heavy drinkers and the larger gas tank can be handy especially when towing so we aren't stopping so often for fuel. I do drive a crew cab, long bed at work and it is a bit too long for me, so I've decided to go with the super cab and long bed in my personal truck since its just me, my wife and dog in the truck. This configuration has a slightly longer wheelbase than the crew cab with the short bed.
