Wheelbase Difference
Ex cab short bed is 138", reg cab long bed is 133". There's no way to make that swap work, the frame is 22" longer between the trans. x-member and the kickup in front of the rear cab mounts on an extended cab than it is on a regular cab.
Now, one could chop that 22" out and have a reg cab short bed....

Yes, there is only 5" difference in the wheelbase, but, the ex. cab is 22" longer than a regular cab, and a short bed is 16" shorter than a long bed. Park a reg cab and an ex. cab side by side, and you'll see what I'm talking about.
