Strange Noise?

I just got back from a 2500 mile trip towing my 9000lb TT. This is the first trip towing with my '02 PS. I noticed a whine from the engine compartment on several occasions and was wondering if someone had any ideas. The whine only happened on the return trip when the temperatures were in the the 70's. To me it sounded like the electric fan I had on my '92 Suburban, but there is no fan on my '02 PS. The only thing I can think of is that the turbine was making the noise. If I am correct, is this normal or am I experiencing something I should have checked out?

Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it is not the fan clutch turning on the fan. Does it come on and go off after a while? Could be the first time you worked the engine hard enough to heat it up and engage the fan?

That is very possible. I only herd the noise on inclines and it would stop after a about 20-30 seconds. This was my first time towing with it and I am sure it was the first time any strain was put on the vehicle.

Thanks for your thoughts, I did not think about a clutch fan.

I've never done a big load with a 7.3, but I can tell you that the 6.0 makes an impressive fan noise when you get it working up a good, steep mountain slope. I think that's what you have going on with your 7.3 as well.
