My thought exactly, almost. I had two words; Tow Truck. I lost a car to the City a few years back. Since it was bumper to bumper with other cars, they pulled the POS out sideways.
Two switches: one for power, a pushbutton (momentary) to the solenoid.
This thread went from helping a guy install a toggle for his ignition to a major security issue. While I agree with ford390gashog's suggestion of just getting a new ignition switch, Beast has already said he didn't want to replace it.
ANYWAY...
You will need a three-way (DP-DT) toggle. Run a wire from your battery to the toggle, then another from the middle prong of the toggle to your solenoid. Run another wire from the end prong of the toggle to the starter. Throwing the switch to the middle will give your solenoid power, and throwing to the end will power the starter. Just be sure not to leave the switch thrown at the end, or your starter will keep running, and it will burn up.
I think I've got it right, as I've only seen it done once. I'm willing to take any comments.
Shoot Beast...I cant believe this thread has gone on this long?? LMAO!!! I live in the Country also... I have a 1500 acre back yard!! (not Mine) But adjoins my property... I dont worry about the locals... They Know me Better than to F*** with my stuff...
But I also live 10 minute's from the lake Tahoe of the east..a 15,500 acre lake..that eveyone from god only knows where from, seem to enjoy as I do... I have a big Sintimental reason for keeping my 70 locked up....Its the first truck I ever bought!! (it was 2 years Old) with 15K on the Odometer!! Now has 98K all my miles!!
I own 8 Vehicles soon to be 9....and the only one that stays locked up..is the 70...I really think you would be fool hearted to put a couple of switches in your ride for $20 in parts and more in labor..Instead of just replacing the key switch.... Just my opinion!!
