Greeting members ! I just joined and have questions about the 1976 Ford Duraspark ignition wiring ? I am building a Ford racecar and need to remove the wiring harness but need to use the stock ignition required by the rules. What is there to wiring up the duraspark to a toggle switch and new wiring?? What do the colors mean comming in and out of the box ? Thanks for any help !
Here you go. This will work. The switch at the top can be two seperate switches. The one for the "s" terminal can be a pushbutton start, and the one for the "r" can be the toggle switch for the ignition.
Try to use some of the original harness, as it contains a special resistance wire that is the "resistor" in the diagram. It should be 1.05 to 1.1 ohms. Make sure you use a resistor or you may burn up the coil and or the module.
You may have to find an older solenoid with the two small terminals. Wiring it up like that makes it start easier because it will give a full 12 volts to the coil for cranking only.
