Seriously though, is it supposed to blow itself to smithereenes?

Dunno- that's half the fun. Actually, there's a few other volcanoes worth watching around here. I look at four potential volcanoes off of my back deck- Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood (dead ahead), and Mt. Jefferson. Mt. Rainier further north is an interesting one too.

Where else, though, could I go surfing in the morning, whitewater rafting or wind-surfing in the afternoon, and night-skiing in the evening- all in one day?

I'm just waiting for the glacier on Ranier to crack and let the mountain blow. Have you seen the seismograph readings for the area? Quite the pulse building around here-

I have to go to the Mt St Helens event in May, it's my birthday!

I would hate to see Ranier blow. That is a gorgeous mountain. I have spent some time hiking up and down that ash pile.

I have seen the super volcano program. That place is heating up and crawling around also. If that goes it will cover KC with ash among other things. My daughter will be up there soon also.

We have a couple volcanoes up here that are talking as well. Both of them are a good distance from me but we'd still see the fallout if they decided to "speak up"!

I was still a twinkle in an eye when St. Helen's let loose, but there was a coating of ash here in Manitoba, some 30 hours away (by car)

Well, I live on Olympia, WA, so I have a view of Mt. Rainier. If either Rainier or St. Helens blows, I will be blocked in Olympia, since the roads will be washed out from the mud slides going down the major rivers.

So, if either of them blows, someone rescue me!

Yellowstone would make St. Helens look like a bottle rocket. I remember 1980 being very interesting. I was living in Spokane, WA at the time and we got quite a lot of ash and a very impressive show as the cloud closed in on us.
