Can you put mufflers on backwards? There is a guy I know, I am not gonna name names to protect the innoncent but I think that I, oops, I mean he put the mufflers on backwards. I have the basic Summit Racing mufflers on my truck and the catalog says offset inlet center outlet, but this guy put them on the other way. Does it matter? What would it have hurt? I have been driving like this for about 2000 miles or so.
basically it usually makes the muffler less effective so its loud but looks legal because it doesn't flow through the baffles the same. Usually people put em on backwards for this reason.....I don't know if this works for all mufflers but I know a lotta people do it w/ glasspacks
With the deflectors like inside Flowmasters instead of hitting the peak and splitting (delta design) your catching the exhaust. Any motor with a muffler mounted backwards will run but how good? "Gota love that back pressure sound" A flow thru like Edelbrocks RPM's they have a perforated screen and flow any direction. Spintechs are a deflector design, call 'em up and tell them your running their muffler backwards. It may take a minute for the laughter to stop and they retrieve the phone off the floor. Glass packs with louvers when reversed flow better but are louder. With deflectors as the exhaust volume increases, the back pressure will rise when mounted *** backwards. Glad it's your motor and not mine. Sorry.
