I have a 99 explorer 4 dr 4.0 sohc. Just yesterday, the front end began to make a hideous squeak/creak noise while driving/turning. I have heard this many times from other explorers. I was just waiting my turn for this noise. Seems like this may be a common failure.
Has anybody seen something similar?
Any advice where to start?
I Have A 95 With 196,000 On It And Just Had The Trans Replaced, When I Got It Back From The Shop It Had Started With The Squeaking And Creaking. I Have Sprayed Every Thing Under The Front End With Several Cans Of Liquid Wrench And I Still Have The Same Noise. I'm Going To Replace The Front Shocks Next. Good Luck And I'll Let You Know If I Find Out What It Is.
Yes, alot of FORDS have this. I had it on my 96 Windstar and I hear it on a 2001 Navigator.
I fixed it temporarily on my WInstar, its the pin that links the A frame to the front wheel assembly. Lossen it up, lube and then tighten it supertight and it'll go away for 5-6 months.
