98 ford explorer no 4x4

98 ford explorer no 4x4
hi everyone
i have a 98 ford explorer and i live in wv so i need 4x4 but it quit working , heres what ive done so far . i changed the transfer case shift motor brand new one, it does the same thing when you shift into 4x4 high the light comes on but nothing happens the 4x4 motor does not turn at all i tried with it in neutral foot on brake key on no 4x4, switch to 4x4 low the shift motor turns but the front end will not pull, when switching the switch on the dash nothing is heard when switching to 4x4 high, but when switching to 4x4 low a couple clicks are heard , ive took a test light under the explorer and checked for power on the brown wire that goes to the clutch there is power when switched to 4x4 high but no 4x4 , is there a control module or something or does it sound like a transfer case problem ? when running on the road its as quiet as a mouse no noise from transfer case i hope someone here can guide me in the right direction and thanks very much , ive read every post on here trying to find something simular but nothing any help would be greatly appreciated .

i don't know for sure but i belieave there is a couple relays somewhere under the dash. i am haveing a problem with my 4X4 and all i hear is a click and it doesn't shift to 4 high. i don't know if those could be wrong but it's worth a try. good luck

are your 4x4 lights blinking if so get under the explorer and pull out the sensor by the back of the t-case pull it out clean it take the + cable off (to reset the comp) and you should be in buseness my 97 I have to do it twice a year..
