Is there anyone with a picture of an automatic Transmission (original) mounted on a 240 six cyl. Mostly we are looking for a part number for the bell housing and a picture. Right now we have a 3 speed and want to mount an automatic. Any help would be greatly appriecated. Thanks
240 I-6 isn't a 64 engine or running gear component.
Ford started using the the 240 CID I-6 engine in 1966.
It means these bellhousings lack side mounting arrangements a 1964 chassis req's. If an engine using this type of Bellhousing (65 & later, 6 bolt) is used in a 64 chassis, a rear transmission support cross member and engine block side mounts must be created and the OEM, 64 & earlier, Front, Engine Mount discarded. Otherwise the engine will roll over/ not stand vertical and there is no provision on the front of 240 CID engines to use the front style mount.
Never the less the Automatic Trans Bellhousing should be the 6 bolt Windsor pattern, which is what most C-4 Transmissions have. That includes the A/Ts' in 66-7-8 Falcons,
Comets, Mustangs & Cougars, with the 200CID I-6 as well as E & F 100 series trucks with a 240 CID engine.
Thanks I stand corrected, you're 100% correct Ford did start using 240s in 1965, not 66 as I typed above.
Still tho' 240's not a 64 & doesn't bolt into a 64, & the transmissions that fit & work on a 240 won't mount into a 64 without some provision or modifications to 64 truck/ car.
