The rectangular ones look a bit tougher I think, the round ones I say are more classic. But heres something I have seen... I nicely painted truck with the plastic grille parts painted to match and also the buckets for the round lights all painted body color. And off-road lights that appeared the same size as the headlights mounted on the bumper. That way all the colors match and all the lights match. Looked sweet!
In any case, the sealed beam conversion kits work absolute miracles on visibility. Atleast for the rectangular ones. I put em on my bronc and would never go back. I am hoping the round ones work as good because I am swapping my grille over to a '73 nose. I paid around $40 for the kit back when they were first becoming popular, now the prices on ebay are half that.
Just to be contrary, I like the round ones. They seem to show deer on the highway or in the ditch better than the square. Also I get alot of comments on the round ones. Also they are unique, there aren't to many trucks around anymore with them.
im with her, i like the fact that not many 78/79's have the round ones, at least not here in okc.....i think the rectangle ones look better, but i still like my round ones.....i found out not long ago that the round lights are the same as the one in my 81 yamaha, lets just say my riceburner bike now has a little bit of Ford in it!!!!!
I like the rectangular ones better myself but see no loss in brightness. In fact I thought they were brighter. They seem to match the lines of the truck better.
In 78, all Ranger and higher trim levels had rectangular headlights, and all Custom models had round headlights. It made no difference whether the truck was produced in early 78 or late 78. All 79 pickups had rectangular headlights. Therefore, if the truck is a 78 Custom, it should have the round headlights. If it's a 78 Ranger or higher, or a 79, it should have rectangular headlights.
