I have a 1976 F-250 Highboy. It has 305/70 16" Pro Comp all terrain tires on it. Does anyone know what size tires are stock for this truck?.. These tires are too wide and worthless for the snowy weather I live in.
Stock tires will give you stock performance...i had a set of 30" kellys on my truck and damn did it look stupid. (74 F250 Highboy) Ive got 35x12.5x16.5s BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain Km's on there now and damn does it look good.

stock tire size is either 7.50 x 16 LT 8ply rated tube type on split rim wheels or 9.50 x16.5 LT 8ply rated tubeless. The 16 inchers were about 32 inches tall the 16.5 were only about 30 inches tall. I found some 16 inch tubless wheels off an 83 3/4 ton and run
P285 x 16R firestone steeltex all seasons in the winter they are comparable in size to the stock 16 inchers
It is VERY dangerous to interchange 16 1/2" tires and wheels. Many people have been hurt and even killed installing the wrong tire on the wrong wheel. There is lots of information on the internet about this.
As far as performance goes, unless you spend LOTS of time in muddy, boggy conditions, the stock size tire will perform much better on your truck.
Oversized tires add LOTS of extra rotating mass. It takes extra power and fuel to turn this mass and it takes LOTS of extra brakes to stop this rotating mass. Big hides might look cool, but there is a serious price to be paid, so unless you need them for muddy conditions, you will be many dollars ahead by staying with a stock or near stock size.
