if it started when he jumped 3 and 5 then the starter wasn't the issue this time. if putting power to 5 then the relay wasn't getting good power from the ignition switch. may have been a freak chance that it just happened to work this time but still if you put power to 5 then its just like turning the key and everything working fine.
