Hey - While we're out here in Kansas, sitting around after I graduate, and before my wife pops our 2nd kid....I'm gonna be a little bored!
Anyhow, I've slipped fully to the darkside and the Daisy is undergoing period kustomizing as we speak! In fact, I am starting on the interior this next week, with gray vinyl and true Tuck 'n Roll in white pearl vinyl.
Anyhow, the bed leaves a lot to be desired in the kool department, the tailgate looks like a styling afterthought, and I want to make it match. I'm wondering what more modern tailgate will fit size-wise? It will have hidden hinges, and I need to reskin the outside to match the contour of the bedsides for an uninterrupted body line flow around the back.
Does anyone have any guesses on roughly what tailgates would fit the '57 - '60 Stylesides without TOO much modification?
Ever seen the old 59-60 dodge beds? Has a 57-60 look to them, much cleaner bed to tailgate transition. To look modern would just require the ne gate skin.... Check out that really cool purple 1960 that was on ebay along time ago, had what looked like mid 70's econo-truck gate on it. Then there's the brazil 57-60 styled trucks..... -4speed

Hi I am just up the road from you in Beloit.
A buddy of mine used a piece of flat sheetmetal from "the Yard" in Wichita. He cut it to full tailgate size. Then he cut a rectangle around the ford letters on his old tailgate then mounted the letters in the center of the flat sheetmetal. He put a piece of pipe across the top edge, and made a 1' flatmetal frame to go around the inside edge of the tailgate to weld and bolt hardware on. It was very easy to do, and it looked great until his girlfrind hit a tree in reverse with the tailgate down.
(PS I notice you are not a Kansas chapter member- you should join, we need more old trucks and the get togethers are fun)

Since your on tailgates.I dont have one on my 58.57 thru 60 are not the same?I saw a truck and stopped to look at the tailgate so I could make my own. The back of the bed where the gate fits was different than mine.
I can't imagine a stock gate from another truck exactly matching the lines of your trucks sides, but the shape of the sides as they turn toward the seam of the gate edges lends itself really well to adding a simple custom face on the existing gate. You could maintain the same lines on three side of the bed. Not really hard to do. The new face would attach right over what you've got.
See my gallery for ideas. My custom gate blends into the side walls. Yours would blend at the seam, which would look even tricker.
Check out my gallery....
I just dug out a couple pics I have of THE Purple One I was talking about.
Anyone with info on this truck, I'd really appreciate it! It was on Ebay about a year ago.
Shane, I had a link to his site where it was for sale but it is dead now, He was asking 25,000 for it and was for sale quite awhile. I dont know if it is still for sale or not but on the link I had there was quite a few pics and info
