LabWillow - I think I can help you feel a little better. I also have an '05 f350 drw 6spd V-10 but 4x2 and 4.10 and a scale weight less than 6,200 pounds. My summer/winter non-interstate mpg is 11.5/9.5, empty. I suspect if I had your weight I'd see your mileage too.
If you notice the new trucks dont show gas mileage on the sticker at the dealers. They say it is above a certain weight classification and is not needed. If an accurate mpg was posted on the sticker, sales would be way less than they are. The V10 sucks gas like crazy and Ive certainly never done better than 12 on the hwy. I dont even know city mileage.
It's the inspection cover on the front of the bellhousing. Take it off, and where the top lip of it fits behind the engine plate, put some foam or rubber on it, and reinstall.

If you're only getting 12 on the highway, somethings wrong. Big tires, too much load with 3.73 gears, or you're just going too darn fast
My 1999 E450 V10 Box van seems to be a gas hog. I tow a 10k travel trailer. Dosen't do good op hills . Has 43K miles. What should I do to increase milage and dependability?
I think we'd need more info, but like Captchas said, it's heavy.
Chip won't help, the banks setup might help a touch, but you'll probably never recover the cost. I have the banks headers on mine and torque is up across the board. I might have gotten a small gain in mileage.
I don't know what rear end. Bought it used. It is a van nose with a 14 ft. box. I probably should put a nose cone on it. They are hard to find. Any ideas? I keep reading in this site about this yr. engine blowing spark plugs. Should I do something with them? I get 7.5 empty. Thanks for all the help. This is a great site. Tom
My 4K pound Jeep TJ gets 14-15 mpg mixed, same driving conditions my Truck gets 11.5-12.5 weighs twice as much and goes allot quicker. The numbers on the stickers of cars are all wrong by about 20% (this was a story on Primetime) so my truck that get 13-14 highway at 75 to 80 would show about 18 Highway on the door sticker. I almost think they would sell more?

The test is very structured and actually pretty accurate. Virtually no one drives like they drive the cars in the tests, anyone who does get's run over on the freeway around here.
In my case, I can drive my truck 60 and get 15 or maybe a tad better. If I drive it at 80 it's down to 10-11. See signature. Towing a 6000 lb travel trailer and driving at 55 actually get's me better mileage than empty at 80.
