I've had my SD F-250 V10 Reg Cab 2wheel drive long bed for just over a week. I have put on 531 miles and ave 13.48 mpg. None of these 531 miles have been necessary. All for fun. I like to drive it. Mostly conservative driving but have been varying the speed a lot. Up over 85 mph once and over 70 many times. My old '86 chevy with 305 was very little better if any.
Going to get a Leer topper put on today and interested if it will raise of lower the gas mileage.
I'm satisfied with the mileage, it's a big POWERFUL machine. I love it! And it's possible it will do even better when broke in.
thanks keith . they sure have hit the real world this time. that jeep has never bettered 15 .but for now it beats a escape in its being a real 4x4 not a fwd with a rear axle drive unit bolted on.
I'd rather have the Escape being as they're both car based, unibody'd cute-utes anyway. If I had to have one, I'd at least take the one with better gas mileage and front wheel drive will get you through most situations anyway. Besides, the Jeep is ugly, Fords=good, AMC/Ramblers=I won't say, this being a family forum (heh heh) Ken (I do reserve the right to not include AMX's, Mark Donahue Javelins, Rebels, you know, the good stuff)
Excellent Post Kieth W and so true , you tell someone you drive a V10 and they think your crazy or have deep pockets. Truth, this fantastic V10 is no worse than many vehicles on the road and a lot better than many. I had an 88 460 and my 05 V10 is a gas sipper compared to that guzzler. Plus its moving 2000 pounds more truck and moving it a lot quicker. Wrench.
I have an ARE cab-height cap, and without it, I get 13 on the highway. With it, I can get up to and past 15.
Got my new topper installed 3/10/05 and drove 45 miles, filled with gas and it took 2.90 gal for 15.51 mpg! I'm still sceptical but I did let the nozzle shut off 3 times. I'll know for sure if this is right or just a fluke when I check next time.
I have the V10 X and I get better gas milage14.5 Hw than my wifes 5.9 Awd Durango 11.5 Hw The X is twice the size. But I got to say the Durngo is quich as hell.
Reality check..The V10 is a gas guzzeling fuel sucking mother..11,12,13,14 MPG is horrible...I have the 05 V10..I know it is a fuel hog I bought it to tow a very heavy fifth wheel RV and it does a outstanding job .I am a happy camper at 9-11 mpg. My 04 Honda Civic gets 38 to 40MPG Now that's MPG...Will everyone who bought the V10 because it gets great MPG please raise their hands...If your hand is up you have a serious problem facing reality..or verrry deep pockets.......Enjoy your V10..I do..I don't check V10 MPg..I just run Gas station to gas station..and it does not take to long.
Hands up anyone who bought a SuperDuty (any engine) for the gas mileage?
Even a diesel might get around 18-19.
Thats still nothing to write home about.
My Neice has a Honda Jazz 1.3 (not a Hybrid) She gets 65mpg in the CITY!!!.
I sure didn't buy my SD for the gas economy. No truck that will pull anything is going to be cheap to run. But we can't compare any truck to a little car. Lets compare trucks to trucks. I plan to use mine only when I need a truck (well maybe SOMTIMES just for fun) and otherwise we drive the '03 caravan and get 25 mpg. Actually it has averaged that for the last 18000 miles. But it won't pull my 7000 lb (when loaded) car hauler.
Same here we use V10 F 350 to pull the camper. a load of mulch once a spring, large household item every once in awhile everyday drive arounds are the Honda's Wife Accord..Me Civic. I just get a kick out of the folks who talk about the GREAT MPG they get in their trucks,My Dodge gets better than your ford..My chebby gets better that your Dodge..one gets 12 the othe gets 14.. that sucks, thats horrible..thats bad MPG..The V10 is a gos hog but so what..It pulls my RV..the Honda won't
Yes arguing about 2-3 miles to gallon in the 10 to 18 mpg range is silly. Since I got my new F-250 I've been checking every time just curious. Don't know maybe when the novelty wears off I'll quit checking. With the pickups I had before, "chebby's", I checked at first and then just put in gas when needed and don't worry about it. However my V10 takes very little more gas then the Chevy with 350 or the other with 305. With the 350 I think I got as high as 15 once and made an "economy run" with the 305 and got 19. Tow anything and they were both down around 10.
We can only dream about heavy trucks with 300 to 400 h.p. that get 30 mpg.
The V10 is a gos hog but so what..It pulls my RV..the Honda won't
And what mileage do you get with the Hondas and how much do they weigh?
Pound for pound, square-inch to square-inch of frontal area (aerodynamics), the V10 in a SuperDuty is at least as efficient as the Honda. Pulling the RV, that efficiency goes even higher if you consider the added weight and aerodynamics.
It's not a gas hog for the job it does. The trick is using it when you need to do a "job", not just as a grocery/kid getter.
