I was told by a couple Injector shop managers that a 6.9 and a 7.3 IP will work on ethier as long as they go thru it and change the settings nothing major just tune them to the motor. other than that the 7.3 one has more emission crap on it I forget what it was called.I wish I would have tryed runing my 7.3 ip on my 6.9 especially with the upgrades I did.
Well, I was looking through a 7.3 manual today and found some info that seems to agree with me. It said that injector codes BB, C, and D can all be mixed on an engine with no problems. Now I know international wouldn't say that if there was some sort of pressure difference. It only showed one pressure, 1875 and you can run them clear down to 1425 before you need to fix 'em. Sounds like they aren't too worried about pressure at all, that's a big spread.
I wonder how it would work once I put the turbo on?
I think I opened a real can of worms here, but there seems to be a lot of good thinking going on here. I guess I should go back to the library and check out that book I saw that showed how to rebuild and calibrate these type of pumps. Maybe I could learn a thing or two.
As for the injectors. What about the G types. Are they supposed to be any better? I keep hearing that the DB-2 pump is only good for around 230-240HP. Is this true? If so I wonder what the limiting factor is? I've heard people talk about upping the pressure that the pump delivers without increasing the size of the pump shot. Do you guys know what actual difference that can make? I don't really know that much about these motors. I have some friends who are pretty good with KittyCats, but they don't really like to mess with the IDI Intl's very much.
I'd say you need to find a good injection shop in your area and talk to them about what they can make your pump do. Unless you have a pump stand you won't be able to set it up yourself. Reputable shops may have a problem setting your pump on "kill" for emissions reasons, so be ready to tell them it's for an off-road truck and you have cash.
What are you worried about, 230 hp is plenty for a truck motor. You'll have a hard time keeping it cool anyway.
Not worried. Just curious. I hear a lot of trash talk, I like to be informed. Thanks for the help. Besides, I get really tired of guys with $ 50K trucks with a chip looking down their nose every time they see my truck. I know I can't outpower them, but I weigh less than they do, so I figure that evens the odds a little.
Thanks for all the help to everybody here. It's places like this that make having fun possible without wasting a lot of money on things that don't work.
I hear ya. But then when I'm at the lake I'm not getting an ulcer when I see some newby backing down the ramp toward my $750/month payment either. I just laugh and say, I hope he doesn't hit it where he can hurt it. But if he does maybe I can get his insurance to spring for a paint job.
