I received a call from my dealer today, he stated that there will be a 2 to 3 week delay, on top of the 4 to 6 week build wait, on my F-250 CC LB FX4 V-10 due to a shortage of 18" wheels. He also stated that it may be impossible to get the 18" wheels after the extended wait anyway. Any input/suggestions here? I feel that you need the 18s to fill that wheel well. The dealer was pushing me to switch to the 17s, I will not do that without an incentive to do so. What should I do?
My truck was one of the first to be ordered last year and I had to wait 3 extra weeks for the 18's and it's worth every bit of it. The only thing I dread is the cost of buying those tires until they become more common. Looks like a different truck with bigger tires even though it just an enlarged 17 inch wheel but a much larger tire. Thank goodness my dealer talked me into the 18's because I was just going to do the 17's.
'05 V-10 cc lariat lux 4.30's 18's SB and yes the 4.30's and the V-10 is next best thing I did. I ordered so early that the upfitter switches weren't even on the list yet so I missed them. The only option I missed.
He also stated that it may be impossible to get the 18" wheels after the extended wait anyway. EJD
BS to that, he just wants his money faster, wait the extra couple of weeks. There is no way ford will jeopardise sales by not putting pressure on their supplier for these wheels.
Just one thing to be aware of. The 18's that come will be Continental contitrac TR's (M&S tires, even though Ford sells them as AT's). Depending on where you plan on driving you may not like these tires. More selection in the 17's. Just food for thought if you have the choice in tire selection now rather than later. Personally I like 18" tires; but be aware of what tire you're going to end up with. Hope you enjoy your truck as much as I do once you finally receive it.
The 18's are fine but I have aset sitting in my garage. I put 20's on mine as soon as they got here. I really thing the 17's would have been better just because the tires are better that come on them. The continentals are pretty worthless unless your doing alot of dry highway driving then they are fine.
Go with the 17's. The wife's F150 came with 18's and I can't get a better tire for it. BFG rugged trail??? Junk tire that should be $100 each, sale price $278. I can (will) purchase new wheels and tires for less than just the 18" tires. Dodge and Chebby are not using 18" wheels. So the cost will not come down anytime soon. Very poor tire selection and hight cost. Whats really sad, I tried to sale her wheel and tire combo on E-Bay. Thought I'd get enough to pay for the new wheel & tires. Wrong! with 1K miles on them, the highest bid was less than $100 each. 18's look good, but it ends there. IMO Run from them. go with the 17's and be Happy.

I have an F350 with 18" and Continetals. Agreed they could be better tires.
The ride and handling with the 18" is super. A very controlled ride. Tires in the future? Do you really think tire makers won't make tires to fit the most popular vehicle sold in the USA??? There will be plenty of choices. The're a new size, give them a break to catch up.
The look, the ride, and a load rating of "E". It's worth it.

I agree the look, the ride, they're worth it. But, how long do I want to pay $250 plus for tires? I know, I know, we pay a lot for the truck and we're riding the state of the art, but dough is money, and almost as good as cash...
If you really need that 11200 GVW and I do than you are married to the 18 " tires and the Contis, Mine are BSW and as I have stated on other posts on pavement , rain, and Ice they are as good as any tire I have ever owned on my last 8 pickup trucks. I even started a thread wondering if the BSWs were from a different batch and maybe better than the OWLs so many people find fault with. I should add my truck was a factory order
and I paid 370 Can extra for AT tires and received M/S Contis. My dealer agreed and I was reimbursed that amount. Wrenchtraveller.
