I just ordered my 08 SD last week. I got the KR F250 PSD CC SWB. I also got it with the Nav Sys and the DVD. The problem I have is someone just told me that they went to order one also and the dealer told him if he ordered it with the Navigation it would delay the delivery. He was told it would take up to 18 weeks to get the new truck with this option. Supposedly they are having some sort of problem with it. Has anyone else heard of this delay? I was surprised that my dealer didn't mention it if it is such a problem. I am hoping it is just bad information. Has anyone ordered a 08 SD recently and if so how long did it take to get it? My dealer told me 4 to 6 weeks to get it. If this delay with the Nav is true I would rather drop the Nav than wait the extra time to get my new truck. Any help would be appreciated.
First off welcome to FTE, lots of good people and info here.
My understanding is that the nav system is delaying trucks 4-5 months. Hopefully a moderator will come along and move this down to the 6.4L section as there is good info there on this question.
If this helps you at all, I recently added Nav to my '06 king ranch that fits the hole very well. It's a Pioneer AVIC-D3. It has Nav, DVD,CD,XM,am-fm and a really cool i-pod connection. The i-pod function actually displays the regular i-pod display on the touchscreen, which makes i-pod usage very easy. This unit also sounds much better than the factory stuff. The good news is this unit only costs about $1,000.
Congratulations on the new truck
Well....look at the bright side of ordering it without....you'll be getting that appreciation check and then you can go out and pick up that Pioneer unit!
I ordered my '08 F250 4x4 XLT RC V10 ZF6 on Feb 18 and drove it home on Apr 14. If you check www.blueovalforums.com you can learn how to track your order and will see that others have experienced delays apparently due to the nav systems.
I ordered my 08 F-350 Lariat SRW V10 with a NAV unit on March 9th and my truck was built last Monday (04/16). I am just waiting for my dealer to call now!
Yes, you can add Sirius to the pioneer, just buy a sirius receiver instead. Either connects to the back of the unit inside the dash. Also don't forget to buy a SWIPS unit to maintain use of the steering wheel controls.
SWIPS is a unit that PAC makes that allows aftermarket stereos to understand your steering wheel controls so they still work. I have one in my truck hooked up to my kenwood aftermarket DVD/Nav unit and it works pretty good. It's not quite as responsive to button presses as the stock stereo but it's worth it I think.
The 08 has the same radio opening as the 05-07 so it should fit fine. I'm not sure if it uses the same install kit though. To get an idea of what a double din touchscreen looks like in the factory opening look in my gallery.
I personally feel that you can get a lot more performance and features for a lot less money by going with an aftermarket unit.
Hey Beerstalker Thanks for the info!!
I just talked to my dealer and he told me that they get weekly reports on production and that crew cabs are at 50 % and Navigation builds are at 0% this week. I am adding the sunroof to my order and taking out the Nav, Audiophille radio and rear seat DVD. I plan on going with aftermarket Like you and vatreefarmer suggested for the Nav and also the DVD. I like being able to get the Bluetooth and the Nav system that has a hard drive for storing music files so I don't have to have an MP3 Player always hooked up tp my dash.
How hard are they to install? What should it cost if I have to pay someone to install the Nav?
I wouldn't say that the install is difficult but it can be time consuming. I did everything myself with a small amount of help from one of my friends that works in my local Circuit City Roadshop. I bought the scosche wiring harness (it included the vehicle speed sensor and radio control wires so I didn't have to splice into the factory wires, the other brands do not include these) and the best kits dash kit. I sat at home and made my own wiring harness using the scosche harness, kenwood harness, and some 4 way scotch lock connectors from radio shack like these.
First I soldered the kenwood and scosche connections. They are pretty straight forward. I then installed my PAC steering wheel contol interface between the two tapping into the power and steering wheel signal wires from the scosche harness and hooking into the remote input wire on the kenwood harness. Then I got my power and ground leads for my navigation unit off of the scosche harness and ran it to one of the 4 pin male scotch lock connector. I then wired up the female scotch lock connector to the navigation units harness so it would just plug in. I then used another male scotch lock connector and ran the reverse power lead, amp turn on lead, and parking brake ground wire to it. I then spliced into the parking brake wire, and reverse 12V+ wire and ran them to a female scotch lock connector. After all the soldering and shrink wrapping of connctions was done I wrapped everything up with electical tape to make a nice clean 4 ended harness. To install it in my truck all I had to do was plug in the scosche harness into the factory radio harness, plug in the scotch lock connectors and plug in the radio. If I ever have to remove the stereo, the only evidence that it was ever in there will be the wires for the parking brake and reverse circuit. It took more time to do all the soldering and everything like I did, but it makes install and removal a lot easier, and I was able to do it at my kitchen table rather than in the truck.
It probably sounds a lot more difficult than it was, but it was not that bad. In hindsight I should have borrowed a digital camera and taken pictures of everything, but I didn't. If you have experience with electrical wiring/soldering I would suggest you do it yourself. I knew I wanted to install everything this way, and I knew it would have been very difficult to explain how I wanted it done so I just did it myself. My buddy at Circuit City was very impressed with my work.
If you pay someone to do it I would expect at least $100 for install, probably closer to $200 if you have navigation and rearview camera installed. For most aftermarket stuff the bluetooth is really plug and play so they shouldn't charge much to install that. If you would like more info or help choosing a unit or whatever feel free to PM me or post. I don't want to bore everyone with my babbling any more than I already have though.
Think about going aftermarket on the NAV. You can by one H311 of a sytem for the price they're charging, though I will say it's a nice set up. I darn near choked when I heard the price $2400.00 Sticker. That's my $ .02
