Anything is possible but I would be very doubtful that this will fix the problem. The problem in almost all cases is "lead foot syndrome." That's worth about 5mpg in most cases.
This is not the case with mine. Mine without a doubt has an issue that needs fixed.

While this is true in some cases, I completely disagree. I have an 05 Screw 5.4L 3.73s and the mileage with this truck stinks. I'm lucky if I get 12mpg and that IS driving like there is an egg between my foot and the gas pedal. Pulling an aluminum trailer with 2 snowmobiles, maybe 1500lbs and I am getting 8-9 mpg. I had the dealer verify that I am up to date on the Flash.
My 03 F350 CC, V10 with 35" BFG MTs, got better mileage than this thing. Typically around 13 or so on the highway.
Nice truck, but I am very disappointed with the mileage.
Hopefully this will get figured out because not all the f150's get this. The rental I had got at the very worst 15mpg when I adopted Missouri Mule's theory of lead foot. I averaged 16mpg city and once with 100% highway hit 22mpg. That rental i put a lot of miles on - 3months worth of 900-1000 miles a week. It was very consistent. The truck I have now I put 5000 miles on now and consitently gets 11-12 mpg and I think 14mpg with 90% highway miles.
Are all of you, who are experiencing poor mileage, running 87? My superchipped 5.4 FX4 SCAB gets 16 around town most of the time on 91 octane. Should bump up with my new bassani catback in a few days. Although Ford says to run 87, Ive always noted worse performance and mileage from the lower octane fuel (and yes, I realize they say its designed to burn 87).
You guys/gals that are getting the better gas mileage, how did you break-in your truck? Following the Ford's guidelines, did you drive it hard, etc?
Welcome to FTE jamesa30. I took it easy with my truck for the first 1000 miles. I made sure to vary the rpms levels (no 4 hours highway runs). The motor really started to get more power, and better gas mileage around the 1500 mile mark. I got 12.5 for my first few tanks.
When I bought my truck 3 weeks ago, it had 19 miles on it. I got in it and drove 4 hours home on cruise control.... Is there a chance I could have hurt it by doing this?
i have a 2004 f-150 super crew 5.4 with 3.73's and when it was stock up to about 5500 miles the best i had ever gotton was 13 mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 70 mph. now that i have a 9" lift with 35" tires i get 10.8 mpg on highway with cruise set at 70(11,235 miles to date)..........................Rusty

i'm a little frustrated myself. 05 stx single cab shortbed 4x4, 4.6 with 3.55s(crappy gears i know but still) and with general 35-55 around town/countryside driving i get 10.4mpg. i'm beginning to wish i just left it at the dealership and was in my '77 with the 390 4spd for daily driving which got about 13mpg. 10.4 is ridiculous from that engine and that truck.
I think it's rediculous that these trucks( and it seems reguardless of the engine size) all get about the same milage as a Hummer! I know that they are pretty much bullettproof, but there has to be some problem here. The Hummer not only weighs more, but it cuts thrugh the air like a brick. I know that these trucks are still trucks, and therefore not very aerodynamic, but still better than the brick. Not to mention that the GM 6.0 is not a very gas sipping engine. I hope they fix this bfore I have to replace my cluncker.
I didn't even look at the owners manual to see what they recomend i just drive it . I just try to keep my rps's under 2k and try to keep my foot under control on the interstate ( kinda hard when u got some knucklehead that is in the fast lane runnin 5-10 mph slower than the rest of traffic and my foot gets heavy as i go around said knucklehead) drove to work yesterday about 20-25 miles oneway runnin 80 -85 on the interstate and message center showed 15.9 mpg if i dropped it back to say 70-75 it probably would have gone up to 18 or so
I have a 2004 Ford F-150 Lariat 4x4 Supercab 5.4 with a 3.73 LS rear end. I have the message center that tells you what your gas mileage is and it showed 15.4 MPG , So the last time I filled up I checked to see how close the computer is and it was 15.3 on paper. I have 8200 miles and have had it since Oct.04. I drive about 22 miles to work at 45 to 50 mph. I pull a 19 ft boat and get 13.6 MPG.I must be very lucky to be getting this kind of mileage.
I didn't read the manual either...just drove. I think I got 10 mpg the first tank but it went up after that. I was at 14-16 mpg average for a long time. Eased up on the pedal, don't rev above 2k on acceleration, and coasted more, getting 18-19.5 now. I drive 42 miles to work. In the am it is about 36 miles highway, 6 city. IN the pm (with rush hour, 18 highway, 24 city.
Not sure where the Hummer is getting better than the F150, the last test I saw on the 2005 Hummer H2 was an average of 10.7mpg. My F150 gets average 15.8/15.7 and @70mph it gets 19.9/19.8. 65 and under it get a little over 20.

not that it was getting better, my point was the Hummdinger is so much larger and bigger than the F150, it suprises me to see that people are getting the same milage with the smaller(and supposedly more economical) F150. It wont stop me from loving these trucks, but I just wish that Ford would be straightfoward with this issue, as it seems to be a big one.
